The problem is that it takes years to make these movies, and sometimes the actors just want to move on. That's why we already lost Iron Man and Steve Rogers.

Not at all. I've been saying it for years.

And it's been getting worse, even for films I have otherwise enjoyed.

The problem is that it takes year to make these movies, and sometimes the actors just want to move on. That's why we already lost Iron Man and Steve Rogers.

Yes, actors will obviously want to move on after their 7-film contracts are up. I don't think that contradicts anything I said.

Old characters can be retired and new ones brought to the forefront without getting bogged down in continuity.

Which seems to be a purpose of Phase IV. We're getting the Young Avengers and The Defenders characters introduced as what I'm seeing as a bit of passing the torch.

Yes this definitely feels like they're testing the waters and doing a lot of set-up to pass the torch. This phase has felt like it's dragged on forever but it also got hit hard by Covid restrictions so that's also a huge part of why it's not done yet or getting close to finished. A lot of this got bumped back by a year or more.

We'll see. It would have to be a pretty clean break from the original characters to avoid getting too bogged down.

Interesting.

I can only speak for myself, and I have to admit that I also thought the film went way overboard on the humor. At times the film comes off as a parody of the MCU, and the shifts in tone are often jarring.

I didn't find Ragnarok that way at all. And he's usually really good at threading that needle. Might have to watch the new one when it comes out on a platform I'm already paying for.

To be honest, I haven't really enjoyed an Avengers movie since the 2012 film. I can tolerate "Infinity War", but I didn't love it.

To be honest I prefer that. I like feeling like I can just watch a film and if I miss the next one, too bad, so sad, life moves on.

The first Avengers was fun. The rest less so. Infinity War and Endgame were just flat out exhausting by the end and I felt more relief that it was over than any great emotion.

Yeah, I also prefer the current way the MCU operates, where these characters are all just existing in this same world and occasionally their stories may intersect, but they're not leading up to some massive world-changing event. (Well, I'm sure they are, but after the Infinity Saga I kinda wish they were done with events like that.)

Agreed all around. I found Endgame to be ponderous, self-important, and not at all worth the time spent watching it.

I wish they were done with the big events, but somehow I really doubt it.

Endgame and Infinity War are excellent, I don't know if they'll ever be surpassed as the huge event movies they were. I'm honestly excited for the MCU to maybe start building up to something big again (Galactus being a phase ending big bad would be amazing), but I'm fine with movies being a bit more of their own thing for awhile, assuming they're just good movies on their own (which I'd argue Thor L&T wasn't, but thats a different issue).

It was fun and exciting and emotional and just a ride on its own. I loved both Infinity War AND Endgame.

Just to clarify, I didn't mean my post as a condemnation of IW and Endgame, both of which I absolutely loved as well. But I do enjoy the current vibe of the MCU where it just feels like an interconnected universe without any obvious building up to a grand, Infinity Gauntlet-style event. Though I'm sure it's all meant to be leading up to something.
