Has Damage Control only appeared in two of the Spider-Man movies and this show? And has there ever been any kind of explanation of what exactly their purpose is?

It seemed like Tyne Daly (where'd she go by the way?) and her crew were mainly interested in scooping up alien technology but then later DC started acting as some kind of law enforcement agency. What is their deal supposed to be anyway? Or are they just there to be whatever the script needs them to be?

They seem to fill in for SHIELD in some capacity?
But then what is SWORD for?

I guess you didn't read the fine print on your Disney+ subscriber agreement. They totally own your ass as well as all your relatives and all future generations.

My wife works there full time and still goes on days she's not working along with plenty of other cast members.

I had a girlfriend in college who, along with the rest of here family, was a true Disney fanatic. All she wanted to do was become an animator. Then she went and worked a summer at Disney World and boy did that change her tune. She LOATHES Disney with a passion now. The working conditions were horrible, which has been documented frequently, I'm led to believe.

So after the final episode, I would say the show was good overall. Episodes 4 and 5 had an unfortunate dip but 6 mostly brought it back. I was glad to see the whole family and friends gang fully accepting her abilities.

I was very glad to see them actually do Embiggening. Visually, it needs work. I don't see why you would decide to encase her entire body in light *except* her face, that just looks incredibly weird on top of the somewhat so-so level of fx they've created for her powers on this show in general. Hopefully it (and the visuals of her powers in general) will be better handled in The Marvels. But I'm glad to see them actually acknowlege its importance to the character.

Big ticket news: Kamala is the MCU's first acknowledged mutant. (And yeah, they only said 'mutation' but they also played the X-men theme when Bruno used that word.) I don't have any problem with that development but it is kind of funny to go to such extreme lengths to create a unique Djinn-related backstory only to tack 'you're also a mutant' on at the very end. But given her reaction I doubt we see her have that much interaction with the X-Men (which tracks given how comparatively little interaction she had with the Inhumans relative to most other Inhumans). This is mostly cool to me in that we finally get some real confirmation that MCU mutants are a thing that just already exists and will simply have to be discovered over time.

My other big question about the end: The bracelet did what looked like transforming Kamala into Carol like in the comics but Carol actually reacted to Kamala's room like she'd never seen it before, so what the bracelet made them switch places instead? Is The Marvels a quest for Carol to rescue Kamala from wherever she just wound up?

    series thoughts

    • [*]LOVED Iman Vellani as Kamala - She seems to be such a bundle of joy (in real life), believable and relatable acting from teenager with all it's up and downs to - easily my favorite of the NextGen - Superheroes (so far)

[*]Liked the family parts of the series - my favorite 2 moments are when her Mom gifts her the dress that includes the design of her K > Ms Marvel flash necklace and her Dad explaining her name/origin that leads to her to adopt it as her Superhero name. :adore:

[*]there was too much going on for 6 episodes, which left a lot potential character exploration and moments on the sidelines, in both Jersey and Muneeba/Karachi. It just felt rushed/cramped. So I'd have preferred either more episodes or just skip some story parts all together (see below)

[*]Could have done without the whole Nuur-Universe/Back-in-time parts. Overall her story still could and would have worked with "just" damage control or other adversaries. Still could have visited Nani too to show that side of her/family/world/culture.

[*]Damage Control was poorly done - even aside from the problematic "above the law and orders" lady :censored:: What's their purpose excactly? (protect civilians from powered beings?) on who's behalf do they work? Why did they try to kill Kamaran in Bruno's apartment?
[*]What's in the letter Bruno put into Kamalas? locker?

    • [*]Suspected Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel to somehow show up - didn't think they'd swap places though. Was looking forward to the movie even prior, but especially now with Kamala being such a fun character too.

[*]So "mutation" and X-music (apparently), why bring in Nuur-energy to the story, just go with the already established Terygen mist/crystals-thing, after all her bracelet was also from a blue arm being (Kree). The story still would work without all those layers.

[*]If they are bold, they just go the route of their discussion: it's just another term for "it" (Inhumans vs Mutants, Terygen mist/crystals vs mutations - it's all the same - endless fan discussions in 3-2-1)

It's the MCU equivalent of the Nega Bands.

Extremely pleased with myself that I predicted it ages ago, as soon as we heard about the change in her powers.

Edit: And Carol seems to be wearing a more comics-accurate version.

Well, that final episode had me grinning from ear to ear from beginning to end. Was not expecting that post credit scene.

Yeah, the nega bands seemed like the obvious comic book analog but I wasn't expecting them to do the whole body switch thing. If that's what it is and she didn't shapeshift uncontrollably like she did in the comics.

    Spoiler for finale
I think this means "Inhumans" are not part of the 616 MCU universe at this time since they changed her from an inhuman who had her powers activated the Terrigen Mists to a Djinn/Mutant who had her powers activated by the bracelet.

So somehow her mutation is what allowed the Djinn powers to be activated by the bracelet. Which I'm going to say the theory they are a "Nega-band" or something similar of Kree origin is definitely looking more likely with the Captain Marvel connection. There are connections between Mutants and Krees so the bracelet didn't work on Kamala's grandmother because she was half Djinn/Human with no mutation.

I wonder if this means we are going to get a bigger 'Mutant Reveal' in "The Marvels" movie or post-credit.

That's a fair interpretation, but all I think it means is that Kamala is not an Inhuman in this reality.

I mean that's a more logical and specific take on this episode, and probably avoids having multiple pages about Agents of Shield canon being shot to hell yet again in the MCU in this topic like the MCU topic gets ;)

Speaking of there possibly being some sort of X-Men tag in The Marvels, all things considered, a post credit tag in that movie might be a good place to introduce Jean Grey, AKA "Marvel Girl".

A marked improvement on the prior two episodes, with many great moments, but still a little hollow overall. The whole series felt a bit like a novelist trying to write a short story, struggling to cram the complex layers of the latter into a form that actually needs focus, clarity and simplicity. The Clandestines, the Red Daggers and Damage Control all fell flat as a result, and robbed the story of weight. The old, bad Marvel habit of prioritising action over character didn't help, either, especially in ep 4; that chase could have been half the length, and left room to actually give some depth to the factions involved.

Iman Vellani was comfortably the best thing about the series, and I hope The Marvels gives her plenty of chances to shine even brighter. Speaking of Marvel, my that end sting caught me off guard. I have no idea what to think!
