Trauma and Masculinity in Star Trek, Part Three: Sisko

Cake is always good.
(Aww, the board won't let me post an emoji of cake. C'est la vie.)

We're on page 2 of this thread and people have stopped discussing Sisko. I'm beginning to wonder if I was right about many Trek fans ignoring him.

I hope you love this article that I did on Enterprise!
Nicely done! I'd forgotten the Organians reappear on ENT.

I don't think that's true. There are many threads on this board that celebrate how great Sisko was...why is DS9 your favorite, why isn't there a statue of him, etc. Best thread of all is this rewatch, serious analysis of the episodes with excellent insights on every aspect of the show--

Sisko is my favorite captain. Not because he's the best captain (though he's in the top three), but because he is the one who is most like a real human being. He marries (twice), has children, grieves, fouls up occasionally, has more than one hobby, loses his temper, is nonjudgemental toward his best friend, etc.

I especially love his loyalty and tenderness toward Kasidy, even after she goes to prison for aiding the Maquis.

Good article.
Liked the part on male trauma, and how it's kind of laughed off or given the blame the victim mentality of oh you wanted it or you deserved it.. Etc.
Sisko was a good role model, flawed of course, but no one's perfect.

But the elephant in the room is that it was the writers and the show's rules . Kirk wasn't allowed to grieve because of the episode reset. Hell he had a wife with kid stoned to death.. Next episode .. Fine.
Tng, voyager even Ent were victims of the reset.
Ds9 was until recently the only series allowed to not reset. So could explore emotional arcs.

I delved into all of that in my first article on Kirk. Check it out! https://treksphere.com/star-trek-universe/trauma-and-masculinities-in-star-trek-part-one/
