Spock as Second Officer?

There's no such thing as a "Discoized" timeline. It's all the same timeline.

And yes, it makes sense. Pike literally assumed in the first episode of SNW that Spock would be his first officer if Una wasn't there, until he found out that La'an was there. Pike knows he's ready. Spock's also served on that ship longer than Gary Mitchell ever will, so it makes less sense that some lieutenant is going to come in and be first officer when a more knowledgeable and capable Spock is right there.

In the Discoized timeline, does it make sense for Spock to be promoted to First Officer without being second officer?
I mean, the "Discoized timeline" has already shown Tilly go from being an Ensign with no actual responsibilities to being promoted to First Officer with no experience being Second Officer, and she was promoted ahead of half a dozen officers who outranked her including the ship's actual Second Officer. Spock is already far more experienced and qualified by comparison.

Note: my bad: he was a lieutenant commander. Just rewatched the ep today because of this discussion.

It still doesn't make any sense to me that Mitchell would come in and be first officer, and the show doesn't play as though he is, either, imo.

Wouldn't it be great if Uhura turned to Capt Pike and said "Captain, put a Spock in it already."

I am predicting that Spock will eventually become the first officer. It may happen after Kirk becomes Captain but it will happen. Book it.

Sure. It happens during TOS. As of 1672.1, he's still "second officer" (unless he becomes 1st Officer under Pike and switched down under Kirk).

The ship's first officer is the Captain, and the its second officer is also the Captain's first officer. :wtf: :vulcan:

Did Pike never met Kirk until Kirk takes over the Enterprise get retconned out?
Here is the quote:
MENDEZ: You ever met Chris Pike?
KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain.
MENDEZ: About your age. Big, handsome man, vital, active.
KIRK: I took over the Enterprise from him. Spock served with him for several years.

Plenty of wiggle room for those to be two different events.

In “The Menagerie” Kirk says he met Pike when the latter was promoted to Fleet Captain. We don’t know when that is and he never specifically says that was the only occasion, so as @Nerys_Myk said, leaves plenty of wiggle room.
