Well, we never can miss an opportunity to trash companies and their decisions. This is the way...of the internet.

Moving away from Kraven for a moment there's more evidence that Madame Web will be a co-production with Marvel Studios which should hopefully give it a better chance at not sucking.

You make it sound arbitrary. We criticize bad decisions and praise good ones. If Sony were making good decisions, they'd be getting praised for them.

No. I just find amusement in the commentary is all.

I have no love for Sony or their use of Spider-man IP. But, praise is short lived when they do well. So, I guess, yes, it does feel quite arbitrary at times.

    In general terms, you're right.
In this thread, not so much. This is about having zero respect for SONY. A very, very well earned lack of respect.

Believing that Sony's creative decisions re: the Spider-Man IP have been bad is not sufficient justification to trash them on principle.

With one exception, I don't like the way that Sony and Marvel Studios have creatively handled the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man, but I don't go around badmouthing every other creative decision that the two companies have ever made - or are making - as a result.

    Yes, yes, it actually is.
If you eat 5 burgers from a restaurant on 5 different days and they ALL make you sick, every single time, then absolutely, trash them when they offer you a 6th burger with the same people working in that restaurant with no change! You're actually foolish not to. "Those that don't know their history" and all of that.

(Again. This is about their Marvel movies. "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" was amazing! They did good there, for example.)

Indeed. And it's frustrating because it poisons the well of any future discussion. Feeling like any comment comes with a dagger behind it. Honestly, it's how I feel with a lot of fandoms now that no matter what, even if it is good, will still be struck by bad history.

Except, I don't go back to the restaurant after that. I don't trash it. I take my business elsewhere.

See, that's where I different in this brave new world of social reactionaries is that I don't feel the need to air such grievances out. I just don't reward them with my money any more.

This particular restaurant has the rights and ingredients to your favourite food. You WANT them to succeed because we've been wanting to see our favourite characters on the big screen since we were born, for whatever reason. They have the rights to Spider-Man and our favourite characters, you bet we are going to trash it and we have every right to. They're in the business of making money, they better produce something of quality to earn it.

We can see all of this for "free" (or with a streaming service we're otherwise already paying for). It's not about money. If you don't get how the nerd mind works, wanting to see Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, James Bond, Tarzan, all our heroes on the big screen, then why post on a forum where 99% of the content is based on watching fictional people on a screen where we're excited and hopeful to be entertained by it?

No one says you don't have the right.

But, guess what? I can still make my favorite food and revisit it at my house with previous editions. So, no, they don't get my money because "MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!" That's what keeps this insane cycle going in the first place.

Because I wish I understood it. But, every day, I understand it less. It's always anger, and bile, and rage over this and that company ruining favorite characters, when I swear these characters still exist in other forms. It's maddening in it's hyperemotionalism that makes no sense to me. Maybe when I was younger, but even then, my Adam West Batman lived right next to my friend's Michael Keaton Batman. One didn't cancel out the other, and I didn't get angry over the existence of Keaton's Batman.

At some point in time, the nerd mind became more about satisfying nostalgic interpretations of characters and being angry at the wrongness of it all rather than trying to find even the smallest shred of good. SMH.

Nostalgia has nothing to do with this. You're arguing something that this thread isn't about.

It's about bad movies. That happen to have characters in them that we know. But it's not that they changed things. Or that they update things. Or that we don't agree with controversial decisions. Or that they did the things you claim.

They're just bad movies. Like Catwoman. And Steel. And Elektra. And...

When we waste our time on ANY bad movie, especially if we paid hard earned cash for it, it's frustrating. When we can see the bad movie coming at us, if course we're going to complain. Because it doesn't have to be like this.

Morbius didn't really stray THAT far from the comics. It was just a bad movie. Venom 2 didn't have characters that were unrecognizable from where they came from in the comics. It was just an awful movie.

It's really easier to understand than you're allowing it to be.

To paraphrase Sheev Palpatine, "bad is a point of view, Anakin".

Regardless, though, it comes back to what I said earlier: believing that Sony has made bad movies/creative choices isn't sufficient justification for trashing them, especially based on one sweaty neckbeard making a fake script for sh*ts and giggles.

The basic gist of my feelings. But, then, I don't understand the nerd mindset clearly ;)

Do you really need to keep saying that condescending point every other post?

Then what is? If a movie studio keeps making bad movies, what do you expect to happen?

Please find me any point of view where, for example, Catwoman is a great movie. Some points of view are pretty universal. Views on Morbius are pretty universal too. What did you think was great about these movies, again?

Then please let us know at what point we can trash Sony's ability to make good Marvel movies. What's your magic number of movies? I'm at 5. Is it 6? 7? Should I wait for Madame Web to judge and then we've reached that threshold? What are we missing on our end?

You could always stop watching this thread.

I know that sounds snotty but how is it different in principle from all the gatekeeping?
