The X-Files

Absolutely, although I guess in some respects there could be a flipside to this though. The very fact of having to work so closely with someone you maybe don't like can, in its own skewed way, form a bond that might not have existed otherwise. It seems unimaginable that working on the X-Files was always a nightmare for both of them, there must have been good days as well as bad. Laughs as well as arguments. Time eases old wounds as they say, and maybe as both have got older they find it easier to remember the good moments rather than the bad.
You could say the same about most abusive marriages, and just like with those it doesn't justify anything, or make it in any way worthwhile.
Seriously, imagine Kilgrave saying all of that to Jessica Jones and you suddenly get the vibe it puts off. ;)
(though I also heard that part of the problem was they were genuinely attracted to one another but one or both of them was always in a relationship which put a strain on things, not sure how true that is.)
That sounds like gossipy fan nonsense. There's always been this very creepy corner of the fandom that insists on fantasising about the two of them together. Not Fox and Dana; David and Gillian. From what I gather that's something that's always infuriated both of them, and only made matters worse.

Firstly to go from two people who at times had a strained working relationship to the idea first an abusive marriage and then to an abusive, manipulative murderer and his victim is quite the leap! Unless you have some proof with regard to either Duchovny or Anderson's behaviour that you'd like to share with us all?

Secondly, that comment about mutual attraction was referencing Nathan Fillon and Stana Katic, NOT Duchovny and Anderson

I wasn't equating the experiences, just using them as examples to illustrate how wrongheaded that line of logic can sound. Saying a highly stressful and unpleasant experience "wasn't all bad" comes off as a tacit justification after the fact.
Here's another example; I was bullied for a good portion of my adolescence. Was every day an unmitigated misery? No! Were there any laughs and moments of joy in there? Sure, lots! Did any of that make the other stuff worth it, and would I ever go through that again given the choice? Fuck no!

So getting back to the fictional TV show; it's pretty obvious that money was the only reason things went on as long as they did, and probably money (combined with perhaps a case of rose tinted glasses) is what brought them both back. But it seems two seasons of a revival was sufficient for reality to come crashing back and no amount of money is worth anyone reliving one of the least pleasant experiences of their professional lives. Least of all when it's so a bunch of nerds can feel mildly entertained for 40 mins a week.

I stand corrected. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it's a similar situation. I really haven't had much of any contact with the Castle fandom, I just watched the show and that was it (never did see the finale though.) But I've been around enough fandoms in general to know that this is a fairly common phenomenon.

All I was suggesting is that sometimes these kinds of relationships can be complex. Hell look at Shatner and Nimoy over the years.

That's not even remotely comparable. Now, Bill and George on the other hand is a little closer to the mark. I don't see anyone making a serious argument that that professional relationship "wasn't so bad".

If the show had continued to Season 9, Stana would’ve been out as well as the actress who played the medical examiner (as she took Stana’s side in their disputes) Nathan won the battle and he would’ve been the sole lead with the focus shifting full time to the detective agency and occasionally helping out NYPD.
