    No, I don't want the Kelvin Universe to continue. Although I liked the third movie, I didn't love it. And I despise the first two films. I think Paramount should allow the Kelvin Universe to die.

    I know that it will continue. I just don't think it's a good idea. But I guess I'll just skip it when it hits the theaters.

    Having done a rewatch over the last two nights, I definitely want to see things continue. I want to see Spock and Uhura remain together. I want to see how they deal with the premature death of Chekov. I want to see what that universe becomes. James Kirk is far more fun in this universe and I love seeing how each character has been changed in some areas and has remained the same in others. We already know certain things happened too early, but what is the effect?

    I know some fans are upset at how much Jim Kirk changed, but I think one of the things that fascinates me still about this AR/AU is how you "pull a thread on the tapestry" and how things unravel and are rewoven. James Kirk not having his dad meant he became more of a rule breaker. Spock losing his planet and his mother meant his human half suddenly was more on display. So of course things are different. I want to see more!

    I thoroughly enjoyed the Kelvin universe and I'm quite comfortable with it continuing- in fact I kind of like having the film series in a different universe than the TV series, it feels much more clean than the Marvel/Star Wars model and lets them be enjoyed (or not) on their own merits.

    Indeed. The common response I see is this idea that Kirk is quite a static figure and will always be great. What that fails to recognize is all the influences, especially parents, will have on the formation of people, including leaders.

    Hmmm... tough one.
    I don't want it to ever be main continuity Trek (planet of the week? How about Klingon face of the month? LOL), but if I take them as "this isn't ST but it is a cool-looking Scify romp", then sure. The problem comes in in that it IS called 'Star Trek', which now causes as much confusion as the comic-book multiverses. I mean, if you have that many versions of Earth (and we now have at least three/four, and way more if you include Worf's shenanigans), then it comes down to this: What does continuity even mean at that point? If everything is true, then nothing is true.

    Hardly, given the nature of the multi-verse that Trek has already played with. Trek has had many alternate dimensions, including the Mirror Universe and the anti-matter universe in TOS. It also has "Parallels" which shows many branching timelines from multiple choices within events.

    The things that matter are our investment in the characters and the adventures they go on. It's only as confusing as people make it out to be.

    I like this rebel Jim Kirk. And yet, certain aspects of his prime self remain. Have you noticed how he knows legal rules? In the prime timeline, he was described as a "computer with legs."

    Yeah. His growth in ID and then Beyond is great to see.
    And then Spock is fun to see. His timeline begins to alter with his noticing a certain future communications officer. And it’s heartbreaking to see him lose so much in the Kelvinverse. But he has learned what it took Spock Prime 100 years to learn; being human too is okay.

    Yes, I think that it still has potential. Granted, Chekov would have to be recast, or even completely replaced by another character. We'll see what happens in the 4th movie, which is currently in pre-production.

    Jaylah could step in. And they could acknowledge that Chekov died on a mission. It’d be sad, but give the character a good send-off… kind of like The Simpsons did for Mrs. Krabbappel when her voice actress died.
