I don't mind this one. It's kind of neat but there's like a truckload of them around.

Basically that events in First Contact altered things like ships in Enterprise the Romulans having cloaking during that series being a change and that events of First Contact had ripple effects that affected everything from Enterprise onwards. He even mentions that the Federation in Picard is so very different to the TNG version of the Federation and bases that on ripple effects from First Contact. Basically saying that one movie changed everything.

    That's been a theory for a while, I thought?

I've heard that theory, and I don't buy it.

As far as we know, FC was part of history all along. A predestination paradox.

You can't prove it wasn't, anyway.

That's true but I love how many youtubers have done similar videos trying to explain things that really doesn't affect one's enjoyment of the various shows. You'd have to be one of those fans that obsess over everything to care.

I've always hated the 'First Contact changed history' theory, because it means every episode that came before it took place in a timeline that has been erased and personally I prefer it when the episodes I like actually happened.

    It's ok...it's right here:

Now, this time line will be called [deleted} and that way we can distinguish it from all the other timelines. It's from that episode [deleted] which I have on VHS.

    Well said.
The video was fun, and most of them are fun but you really shouldn't get so hung up about these things, it's just a TV show.

I think it would be nuts if FC didn't change history, profoundly. Consider that every single member of Cochrane's ground crew and his two cockpit crew as well were killed in the initial Borg attack. You mean to tell me that none of them did anything in the original timeline.

Picard didn't seem to know Lily from the history books does seem like she wasn't in the co-pilots seat on Cochrane's flight, if she had then she'd have been famous with her picture in pretty much every Earth-produced textbook on the development of warp drive.

I've always just assumed First Contact was a predestination paradox, they didn't change events because they were always part of them, especially given the fact that when they got back it wasn't to a timeline where the Earth was Borgified. If things had changed then it might've been worthy of a follow up film or at least one line of dialogue in Insurrection highlighting the problem they had caused.

One would imagine so. I mean, if Sisko can take the place of Bell and be in Earth's history books then I suspect there might be some minor changes.

For instance, Iowa became a much bigger state.

How many timelines do we see on Screen? Also "Future's End" may tie in to things being different with the 1970-2020 being the data revolution instead of Solar Exploration due to the Starlin thus why there were DY-100 in the 1990's in TOS and the enterprises computers look primitive by the standard of the early 2000's

Fun fact, in VOY: "Relativity" they call FC a "pogo paradox", where interference to prevent an event actually causes said event.

So explictly in universe, it's not an AU. Sorry.

That's been around for millenia, minus the time travel. Look at the story of Oedipus, for example.

Certainly it doesn't believe in butterflies... Star Trek IV subtracts a person from the timeline (Gillian). Star Trek FC subtracts several (Cochrane's crew). And...
Picard Season 2 adds a person from the future to the timeline, in the firm of Rios.
A person is a lot bigger than a butterfly.

Certainly a person can stomp a lot of butterflies, guess that's a lot of time ripples

I go with Three Timelines. Always have. I don't necessarily agree with the First Contact route, but my idea follows the DC Comics model:

    TOS-ENT = Pre-Crisis
    DSC & on = Post-Crisis

Very early TOS Season 1 stuff is "Earth 2", if you know what that is.

OMG yes as a watcher of DC movies yes, not so much the comics, not a fan of comic books but the movies are fine for me.
