    • TOS never did, for obvious reasons.
    • DS9 were the first to visit in its third season.
    • Then the TNG crew visited in FC.
    • ENT visited the very early 21st century in its third season.
    • Then this past season, Picard visited the 21st century for a second time with the La Sirena, with Seven ending up being the VOY representative in PIC.

This leaves DIS, SNW, LD, and PRO. PRO is the most unlikely. Then there is DIS that is on the other side of the Temporal Wars when time travel is banned and there is no indication that time travel will come back, at least anytime soon. That leaves LD and SNW as the next Trek show to visit.

    What do you think?

Take your cue from TOS, SNW. And leave Earth the fuck alone.

I believe that has been officially confirmed that Season 2 will have time travel.

They were also filming parts Season 2 on the streets of Toronto a couple months ago, with no apparent dressing up to look like an alien world. There was an armoured police vehicle with American markings, it's also where we got our first images of Paul Wesley as Kirk, before we knew he was kirk.

I think you are completely ignoring "Assignment Earth" in your evaluation. :wtf:

TOS certainly did visit Earth in it's past.

    That wasn't 21st century Earth.

    ?????
That's a very strange distinction to make considering it was made in the 1960's.

All the shows have visited the time periods of Earth during their runs.

Read the thread title again, they're talking specifically about the 21st Century.

This is a very strange thread, all the Trek shows have visited Earth the past.
Why would one make the distinction of singling out a specific era?

They all have visited the Earth during the years in which their production was done.

Why wouldn't SNW do the same?

Whether or not Toronto gets to be itself on-screen...?

I prefer Strange and New to Old and Earth.

KIRK: The time warp. What did it do to us?

SPOCK: We've regressed in time seventy one hours. It is now three days ago, Captain. We have three days to live over again.

KIRK: Not those last three days.

SPOCK: This does open some intriguing prospects, Captain. Since the formula worked, we can go back in time, to any planet, any era.

KIRK: Why are you acting like this is new? I thought you and Pike did this all the time?

VOY also didn't visit the 21st century - they visited the 90s. The era the show was made in.

Personally, I'm fine with not seeing the present or very near future on Trek. They can do that at the middle/end of their runtime, as a nod to tradition. But don't put that shit in the second season like PIC! I hope the leaked images from SNW is just an illusion, or a simulation, or a badly dressed set or something like that.

I don't see why they have to.
Its really unnecessary if you ask me... and if they do, why don't they go back in time to one of the other UFP founding member worlds such as Andor, Tellar or Vulcan?

After spending an entire season of Picard in 21st century Earth, I'd hope it's a while before any Trek series goes back. But then again, SNW is all about Traditional Trek, and obviously a trip to contemporary Earth would definitely qualify as Traditional Trek.
11:59 takes place in December 2000, which is totally 21st century. Unless you subscribe to the belief that the century begins in the year 01 instead. In which case, the episode ends on New Year's Eve. right when it becomes New Year's Day 2001 and the episode ends with a scene with Shannon O'Donnell's family gathering around to have the family portrait taken, which would definitely be sometime in the 21st century.
One of the primary reasons for the time travel episodes as well as holodeck episodes and TOS's parallel Earth episodes is to save the budget by having it take place in real settings and having the characters wear costumes that can be acquired "off the hangar" or at least taken from another show or movie (as was done in the various episodes to feature Nazis). You lose that advantage if the episode is about another planet's past. That said, we still got 20th century Vulcans in Carbon Creek and in
    season 2 of Picard.

ETSGBIT - Every Trek Series Goes Back In Time. I'm certain by the third season we'll see a 21st Century visit.

Star Trek loves to put its current characters in the current time period in which the show is being produced. It allows the fans to imagine these characters being involved in current events in some way. That's why TOS did it, and why every incarnation of Trek has done a time travel story to the 'present'.

Given that SNW has made it a point to do episodes that evoke fan favorite story types, I would expect them to do a time travel episode to the 2020s at some point during its run.

Can we pick a time period that isn't anywhere near current time?

Though Voyager didn't go back to that time, we just saw flashbacks of Janeway's ancestors.

A wild idea: they interact with either Sisko or Picard, both of whom are in the 2020s.
