DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Unless something worse happens. Miller's actions aren't that of a rational person anymore and this can really and unfortunately take some really sad and tragic turns for the worse unless they can get professional help soon. I really really hope they can, too. Things are bad enough, they don't necessarily have to get worse.

Clearly Miller is headed for a trip through the justice system to face the consequences of his actions, but one can bet his attorney will have him under the care of a psychiatrist (ASAP) so that file will be used in an attempt to (ultimately) confine Miller to a psychiatric hospital rather than prison.

Maybe they bury it and stop comic book movies as a connected thing, and go back to free standing efforts.

Wishful thinking, I know.

WB is already doing that--to a degree--with the Joker movies. Regarding the rest of the DCEU (or any studio's movies where some despicable and/or criminal acts were committed by one of their employees), they already had an established universe (MOS - ZSJL), but can elect to tell stories having nothing to do with the Flash going forward (if they do not want to recast / bear the stigma of Miller). He's only one character, not the entire series, or face of the franchise.

For anyone who doesn't click through to the article, the main part...

On the evening of Feb. 2, the trio contend that Miller was present at the downstairs neighbor’s home in Greenfield, which is located about 40 miles from the actor’s ranch in Stamford, Vermont. That neighbor is in a band with Whitney Suters, a musician who is close friends with Miller.

“[Miller] was wearing a bulletproof vest—and I had no idea until later that they were armed,” recalls the visiting neighbor.

Tensions began brewing when the mother says she mentioned doing some traveling recently with “her tribe” of people, leading Miller to snap at her and accuse her of cultural appropriation. Then, a conversation about board games allegedly went sideways when, after Miller claimed that the board game Parcheesi had Rastafarian roots, the visiting neighbor—who is half-Black—questioned Miller as to which sect of the Rastafari movement it originated from.

“At this point, Ezra explodes and started screaming directly into my face,” the visiting neighbor tells me. “They said, ‘You don’t even know what the fuck you’re talking about. What did you say to me? What did you just say to me?!’”

“I was very caught off-guard,” the visiting neighbor continues. “Then they opened up their jacket—they had this, like, big Sherpa jacket—and they opened up one side of their jacket, you could see a gun, and they said, ‘Talking like that could get you into a really serious situation.’”

Next, according to the visiting neighbor, the mother, and the child, Miller focused their attention on the then-11-year-old, saying, “I’ve talked extensively with your child, and they have a lot of power to them. At one point, you’re going to realize that you don’t have any control over them anymore. They’re an elevated being, and they would be lucky to have someone like me guide them.”

They say Miller proceeded to turn to the mother, who dresses Goth, and accused her of being a witch and a vampire, repeatedly yelling at her, “Do you want to drink my blood? Do you!?”

Miller then came back to the child and allegedly began pestering them with compliments—at one point moving their chair closer to them, requesting that they add the actor on Instagram, and telling the child to pursue fashion.

“They automatically were just weirdly drawn to me and kept talking about how they love my outfit and love my style, and kept going on and on about how it was great,” the child remembers. “It was really uncomfortable. I was really nervous. I was scared to be around them after he’d yelled at my mother and she was crying.”

The mother and visiting neighbor both believe that Miller may have been “under the influence” due to their dilated pupils and erratic behavior.

Miller apologized for the outbursts only to return to pester the family on a number of other occasions, including in late April, in May, and on June 4, dressed as a cowboy. In April, both the mother and child maintain that Miller made the child uncomfortable by hugging them and pressing their body closely against them. During the June visit, the child expressed their interest in horses, and Miller said that they would acquire several horses so that the child could help them care for the herd on their Vermont farm, which also struck them as inappropriate.

I'm starting to wonder if Warner's best option isn't to release The Flash ASAP -- in theaters and/or on HBO Max -- before things with Miller get any worse.

He's on the run from the law with a young woman he's allegedly groomed since childhood. There's no good time to release it.

And I know I'm not American so I don't understand the US's weird love of weapons but surely threatening someone with a gun must be some sort of criminal offence.

I'm not sure the legal term, but it's definitely a crime.
I'm definitely curious to see how Warner is going to handle this, because at this point I don't think there's any easy way to deal with this. It's either release it, which is probably not a great option since there's a pretty chance good people aren't going to see it, and they're probably not going want to be associated with Miller, reshoot with somebody else, which will cost a fortune, or don't release it, which loses them $100,000,000s. No matter what they're going to lose, so now it's just a matter of which is the least painful loss.

Reshoots of certain scenes might be an option; there were many new scenes shot for Zach Snyder's Justice League with several of the stars, so its not unheard of to go that route.

At this point, no one knows how much of a role (or screen time) the other characters play in the Flash film, or rather, how much time Miller takes up, but Keaton's inclusion--and his appearing in the Batgirl movie--could lead to using him not just as the bridge to that alternate reality, but more of the focus for this film (in subtle ways), allowing the set-up for that next phase, where the Flash would undoubtedly be re-cast.

I still think this will be the way they go. If WB is willing to spend $75 million dollars for a longer version of a movie that they had already released a few years prior, surely they are willing to spend some coin to recast and reshoot scenes for an important not yet released movie that is suppose to be an important part of the DCEU.

I will say that after the Amber Heard and Ezra Miller bombshells I am convinced that the DCEU is jinxed.

That's a totally unsupported leap of logic. If the movie never comes out, they can just take the ideas that were supposed to set up other movies and put them in different films (reworked so they don't require the presence of the Flash, or still using Flash but with a different actor). They might even be able to use some of the footage from this film in other projects without putting Miller on screen.

Or they can just change some of their plans about where the universe is going to go. Either way, there's absolutely no reason why not releasing the film would mean they 'must' reboot the entire universe.

They have new leadership now that is very unhappy with spending large sums. I don't think you can just assume that they'll still be willing to do this just because the previous administration did it once.

If the DC reboot is to work they're stuck with three options -

1. Release the Miller movie to reset everything and add in a Flash reset at the end introducing the new casting. Obviously the easiest and best option for the studio but I don't see them getting away with keeping Miller in it.

2. Write a new movie around what they can salvage. Still do the DC reset but featuring a different lead character. Still use the Keaton material, set up the new status quo and a new Flash in the process.

3. Do a Kevin Spacey and recast the part digitally replacing Miller. With a movie this CG heavy this really is an option and I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't what happens.

But you have said he is the absolute best live action Flash. The loss is surely a lot worse than you are implying. At this point, Miler's acts seem no worse or criminal than Whedon. Sure, a good lawyer can get him a insanity plea vs. criminality. But he's making usch bad choices it is hard to think of him as not guilty.

I am one of those who thought at the very beginning they could have easily integrated TV Flash to the Justice League (which was just forming at the time). Flash could have easily done his own stories , focused on Central City, while crossing over in movies when needed (just like the comics). In retrospect, that would have been the smarter move.

And that is sad....because while I was against Miller in the beginning, and scoffed when he said "Multiverse"... when he appeared on TV's Crisis...i was floored (in a good way), and gave it to him on that. He also seemed the most enthusiastic star among all of the actors. This is just terrible

The DCFU is meessy enough that they can work around it. We might have Shazam for little while (since Shazam 1 seems to have been obviously rewritten to let Black Adam have an origin movie first, the Black Adam vs. Shazam showdown will have to be later), and maybe Aquaman if it is another hit... t doesnt have to be a total reboot. Just turn on and off the computer ;)

I think they were willing to spend that much because it was a "sure fire hit" on their new streaming service..and this was during the pandemic, so to have "new" material for the new service during a time where their movies could not be released....seems like the cheapest route. And even then, i don't think that strategy helped HBOMAX as much as was hyed earlier.

And has been said, the new regime wants to CUT costs....

#1 seems to make the most sense....but if it is so bad, they might have to do #3...but could they use different angle shots, so they just need a voice for some scenes, and just reshoot some others?

And if they need to do #3...can/will WB sue Miller for the costs?

The The DC Film Universe is such a mess.... Oh, and with Walter Hamada gone, and i guess Geoff Johns just focusing on Stargirl....does that mean Ray Fisher might be back, or would the new regme want to stay away from him?

"Unite the 7...." remember that?

Cyborg -- probably gone for good, with the planned 2020 release never even going anywhere (unless you count ZSJL)

Flash - If this movie ever gets out, will they waste all of Miller's involvement, or what? Seems like an unsavlageable mess (or at least the success potential being wiped away every minute)

Batman -- with now 2 others out there (Keaton & Pattinson)...any room for the 3rd? i thought he was an excellent fit for a middle aged Batman...but these other movies are taking out the "need" for him

Wonder Woman - #2 had the tragedy of being released during Covid, and even then, not as much enthuaism as there could be. #3 is being set up, right? But could that be the last?

Superman - we have been goign back and forth over whther he will stay on or not. As an actor on the PR trail, he never seemd super enthusiastic about it. Yet, he was certainly well cast (though i think not well written consistently). Superman is the ultimate character of DC...yet this mess has sabotaged what should have been a surefire success

Aquaman -- surprisingly seemingly the most successful of the bunch (we will see when #2 comes out). But even if the sequel is a success (with or without Mera)... Jason Momoa has been involved in so much...this isn't a character he "needs" (as opposed to the new Captain America and Anthony Mackie)/ So not sure if he would go much father either.

And who was supposed to be the 7th member, again??

This is really a shame. DC has the potential for so much more.

But you have said he is the absolute best live action Flash.

He is, but WB will need to take the same chance EON Productions did when Connery (the best Bond to date) bowed out of the role. Others have made a strong-to-great take on the Bond character (e.g. Dalton, Lazenby), so WB will need to seek a strong talent in that regard.

At this point, Miler's acts seem no worse or criminal than Whedon. Sure, a good lawyer can get him a insanity plea vs. criminality. But he's making usch bad choices it is hard to think of him as not guilty.

He is not in court yet, but I see Miller taking a long vacation--either behind bars or (as I suggested yesterday), a psychiatric hospital to avoid prison.

Well, re-titling the film with the Justice League name would move the film's identity from being a Flash movie (up to a point), since alternate universe Batman (Keaton), Supergirl and others appear in the film, so they are the foundation for that universe's JL.

Cyborg -- probably gone for good, with the planned 2020 release never even going anywhere (unless you count ZSJL)

Zach Snyder's Justice League was heavy on Cyborg's story, so that did serve as his showcase, even if WB is too thick to bow their heads after the mistreatment of Fisher and woo him back--and they should.

Batman -- with now 2 others out there (Keaton & Pattinson)...any room for the 3rd? i thought he was an excellent fit for a middle aged Batman...but these other movies are taking out the "need" for him

Patt-Man is not in the main universe. Like the Joker film, he is in his own universe. Affleck's Batman was that somewhat older, wiser Batman, but still able to pose a physical threat, and made a perfect leader of the JL.

Wonder Woman - #2 had the tragedy of being released during Covid, and even then, not as much enthuaism as there could be. #3 is being set up, right? But could that be the last?

I think it depends on two things: Gadot's contract (i.e. how many films did she sign up for), and the performance of a third film. If its a hit that can make audiences forget WW84, who knows--there might be a fourth movie, or just have her in JL-oriented films going forward.

Superman - we have been goign back and forth over whther he will stay on or not.

In the past, Cavill has expressed interest in portraying Supeman again, and someone posted a link to a story that suggested (if memory serves) WB/Discovery CEO David Zaslav wanted more Superman films with Cavill, but that's in the rumor category at the moment. Obviously, it would be wonderful if it turned out to be true.

The seventh was supposed to be Martian Manhunter I think.

I believe so, hence his appearance in ZSJL.

Sounds more like "delayed" than cancelled. No point releasing it 14 months before the film.

One cover for the tie-in comic has been pulled

https://bleedingcool.com/comics/dc-...for-andy-muschiettis-ezra-miller-flash-cover/

DC Comics was to publish a comic book prequel to the Flash movie earlier in the year, Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, featuring a Flash modelled to look like Ezra Miller. As the Flash movie was rescheduled, so the comic book was moved to September, the month before the Flash movie is currently scheduled to be released. Today, in the September 2022 DC Comics solicitations, we got the newly rescheduled listing for the comic book, as well as the following cover to the first issue, actually drawn by Flash director Andy Muschietti himself.

Dunno about that, Whedon doesn't have protection orders involving intimidation and abuse of 12 year olds and their mothers, assaulting people in Hawaii and so on.

Crazy that the one youngster was the subject of an episode of the Marvel Hero Project on D+. Ezra's like every bigot's nightmare, some clown out there trying to steal their children away and force them to convert in cults. It's like anti-representation.
