Chapel Character Teaser

I'm only like 15 min into the new episode but the dialogue here is weird. Like originally it was written to be later on in the season? Chapel talking about adventures with Ortegas involving dates and phaser fire but she just joined the crew? But the ship being repaired with the Gorn ties it directly to the end of the last episode?

Maybe she and Ortegas knew each other from before but, again, that would be my fav Small Universe Syndrome.

At least we know now that apparently this is either before Korby or she and Korby have an arrangement. So they're probably retconning out that he was her Professor[

Or maybe they retconned so Korby is already gone and that is why she's scared of commitment... Anyway like I said I am only 1/4 so well see what happens next.

Edit:. Ok so I'm leaning towards Korby already having disappeared from her reaction to a real relationship both at the bar and at the end with Ortegas.

She is fire though

Does anyone know if the actresses scars on her arms are real or make up? Asking because if make up that means there's backstory planned for them

Has to be backstory. They could have made them go away if they wanted to.

but she just joined the crew?

Out of interest, why are you assuming she just joined the crew? I mean, she was introduced as being 'on civilian exchange from the Stanford Morehouse Epigenetic Project' to Pike by M'Benga in the S01E01 - Strange New Worlds, but Pike had been away from the Enterprise for an extended stint on the Discovery and at long enough after that to grow a full beard. Roughly 'three months, ten days, four hours, five minutes, actually'. She also has the scene in the same episode where she brought up 'Delta Scorpii Seven', implying they have history. Am I missing something that says she only just joined?

The ship had been undergoing a refit since the end of disco. It hasn't been out flying with a different Captain. That's why Pike was on leave, why Una was on another crew, why Spock was on Vulcan. They were assembling the crew at the start of the pilot, which is why half the members are new (Chapel, Uhura, Ortegas, Hemmer) and half are not (Pike, Spock, Una).

That's why M'Bemba has to introduce her to Pike.

Well, Spock Amok shows us Chapel was a little girl with no heart. Just casual hookups with whomever. I don't want her perfect from the beginning. It gives her no where to develop. Chapel is the pretty girl in High School who could get any guy she wanted with that radiant smile. Don't give two cents for the bisexuality nonsense. It's just a politically correct candy sent out to virtue signal. Chapel is bitter it seems. She doesn't want anything but casual sex. Her love for Spock will destroy her girlish pride won't it. Love it. Your heart has to be broken for it to function properly.

Well you seem to care enough to tell us you don't care while using the usual buzzwords.

Wow. The need some people have for women who like sex to get their "comeuppance" is creepy and distressing.

What a disgusting, misogynistic thing to say.

Not quite right, I'm afraid, and this is probably the source of confusion or 'weird' feeling about the dialogue. Just to clarify what happened on screen, with the sources and timestamps (as shown on my version of the episode) so you can check it out for yourself if you require.

1. During DSC: S02E14 - Such Sweet Sorrow (2) the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was badly damaged helping the USS Discovery (NCC-1031) in the battle against Control when, according to Una Chin-Riley (22:07) an 'undetonated photon torpedo breached the hull' of the Enterprise. One of the blast doors wouldn't close and, after an unsuccessful attempt to disarm the torpedo, Admiral Katrina Cornwell sacrificed her life to close the blast doors from the inside in order to save the ship, which took heavy damage to the saucer but avoided complete destruction. You can see the extent of the damage at 55:35.

2. Now, the important bit which shows it hasn't been 'undergoing a refit since the end of disco'. You now jump in after four months, Spock still bearded: '124 days passed since [Michael's] disappearance' (Spock, 59:10, DSC: S02E14 - Such Sweet Sorrow) and you see the NCC-1701 'in Earth orbit, the Enterprise is in drydock, having been repaired from the battle' (source). Having detected an anomaly in the beta quadrant (Michael's seventh signal), the Enterprise leaves drydock with Captain Pike, Una, and Spock (now clean shaven) aboard, warping away to a newly discovered moon on Edrin II.

3. Fast forward an unknown amount of time to SNW: S01E01 - Strange New Worlds, and during his discussion with Admiral Robert ''Bob'' April, Pike says that the Enterprise is still in for 'scheduled maintenance' (05:55) but April says it can skip redundant systems checks. Spock (on Vulcan and clean shaven) is summoned by Pike. This is not the same time as it was when we saw it at the end of Discovery Season 2. Spock greets Pike (13:41), saying that 'personnel rotation was in progress' other than some other officers that will have to 'billet after the mission; that included Chief Engineer and Lieutenant Kirk'. Pike response saying that it seems like a million years ago (presumably since they were last on the Enterprise together), but Spock characteristically confirms that it was 'three months, ten days, four hours, and five minutes'. You're right when you say 'it hasn't been out flying with a different Captain'; but only because it was out flying with this Captain between leaving drydock in Such Sweet Sorrow and coming in for 'scheduled maintenance' for an unknown period.

I watched the episode again, probably for the 10th time already, and there was no mention about her being new. How many times they've had people on and off on rotation is unknown, who is rotated and who isn't is unknown, who Pike did and didn't meet is unknown, as far as I can tell; it's fair to say as part of a Civilian program she might have been on and off the ship and not met the Captain, but we just don't know. I might have missed it, and I'd happily stand corrected if there's something that actually happened on screen to say she is new. As it stands, there's nothing to back up your reading of the situation. Again, I'm happy to hear on screen canon that says otherwise, anything else is assumption and projection.

Ok, I'm going to be honest here. I got the notification that a post of mine was quoted, I clicked the notification, and I saw this giant wall of text, and I'm just gonna nope out of this one. Whatever this is about you definitely care a lot more about than I do. Enjoy your weekend!

I noticed the scars too. Maybe they just didin't care and I love that because I hate picture perfect TV shows with no flaws. Her skin looks real too, not soft focus porcelain pretty. Am I seeing freckles?
