Okay so now we have Strange New Worlds, which is pretty much a rebooted weekly 5 year mission show with very similar new looks and similar relatable, modern versions of classic characters... what can a Kelvin movie do to stand out? All the talk surrounding Star Trek 4 has been about a smaller budget, but unless they're doing bonkers huge budget things like flattening San Francisco or shredding and crashing the Enterprise, what can make a new Kelvin movie different to a two-part SNW episode with different actors?
"Mommy let's go see Star Trek"
"We have Star Trek at home!"
And I say this as a massive fan of the Kelvin movies who hoped Beyond would be a big enough success that they could make 5-year-mission movies every couple of years forever and ever.
