When I am referring to "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and am feeling too lazy to say the complete title, I refer to the show as "TNG." However, in every Marina Sirtis interview I have ever seen she refers to the show as "Next Gen" (at least I think that is what she calls it). Does anyone else call it that? Or do you call it something else??

Well, I say "The Next Generation" when I'm talking about the series. But when writing here I'll always use "TNG", bacause it's much shorter ...

Same here. I say The Next Generation, and type TNG; I don't think I've even heard Next Gen, it sounds like a Marvel comic to me.

I call it Bob. :rommie:
You too!?

I usually type it as TNG but have been known to say Next Gen also...easier than saying the whole Star Trek: The Next Generation..:p

I think this is a distinction between the written word and speaking, as noted above. A good abbreviation for writing is the first letters of each word, as in TNG, but this is not always easy to pronounce. A better abbreviation for speaking is 'Next Gen', but in writing this requires more letters.

However I voted TNG. Because how often do I actually get to talk about Star Trek? ;)

I've never run into a fellow brit who uses TNG, of my age group we just say "star trek" and the qualification comes with the next sentence "so picard..." occasionally I remember people saying "next generation" .

It's only fans who say "TNG" and the like.

Depends. I always say TNG online (full title when people have no clue wtf I'm talking about.) When speaking I only refer to it as TNG when the person I'm talking to is also a Trekkie, usually someone who also calls the original series "TOS" in conversation.

I definitely remember her calling it "Next Gen" a number of times in interviews as well. I also remember some actors calling it that when watching some of the Voyager special features on DVD. Unfortunately, I don't remember specifically who. Oh, and you know me Ro_Laren:)...I also call it TNG.

I've always called it Next Gen in conversation. If I'm referring to it in writing, here for example, I refer to it as TNG.

Same with me, but I say the whole thing, Next Generation, when talking about it in conversation. I think it's the same with DS9. You often hear it talked about on the DVDs as "Deep Space" instead of "DS9"

If I'm in a verbal conversation with someone I refer to it as "The Next Generation."

If I'm typing it then I put TNG.

I've never heard it referenced as 'Deep Space' in any conversation I have had, though. 'DS9' is quite common in spoken as well as written word.

The only thing that irritates me is when people actually type Star Trek: NG

Yeah, that would be annoying. So does anyone call it TNG and type TNG? That is what I normally do.

And I have never heard DS9 referred to as "Deep Space." That's weird.
