I am too old to have seen the x-men cartoon

How can you be too old to watch a cartoon?

You know, since in MCU chronology it's been, what, maybe 7-8 years since the Snap

Six by my reckoning.

Except there hasn't been any evidence of Inhumans in the MCU aside from Agents of SHIELD (which the MCU has completely ignored, unfortunately) and Inhumans (which no one wants to remember).

Yet Anson Mount...

Yeah same here, but I think that was during that period of time where he needed work so he took work where he could get it despite the quality of the role.

I was always led to believe that British actors tended to be of the opinion that a job was a job, that any role was a chance to practice and hone one's craft, so that playing the Gravedigger was just as respectable as playing Hamlet. I figured that was why dignified English actors like David Warner and John Rhys-Davies did animation voice work in the era when that was considered less reputable in America.

I wish Christopher Eccleston had done the same.

Honestly that part was so underwritten that I don't think it would have made any real difference who played it. It probably didn't help Eccleston's career much, but I can't imagine it significantly hindered it either. I mean it's not like he has ever been an "in demand" type actor.
But yes, even then I suspect Cumberbatch was in a much better position to be turning down high profile gigs than Eccleston.

Unfortunately Mikkelsen didn't have that much more to do than Eccleston. I love the film but his character was pretty thinly written.

Eccelston said at the time Thor 2 came out that the majority of his performance was cut out and it annoyed him. Probably overlaps with Taylor’s comments that they changed his film in the edit.

I'd forgotten about that. I know Marvel doesn't do director's cuts but it would be great to see what Taylor and Eccleston originally intended.

I recently read an interview with Sam Rami saying that between Covid/reshoots/editing, there's about 35-40 minutes of footage that didn't make the final cut of Dr. Strange.

I'd like to know if that was part of the original story before Covid delayed everything, and if the footage will show up as DVD/Blu-Ray extras.

That amount of leftover footage is pretty typical for most big movies. They tend to shoot more than they need so they have options in the editing process. And reshoots are normal for big-budget movies that can afford them. They have the luxury of seeing things onscreen and going back to redo them if they don't work as well as they'd like.

Originally, when Loki died in Dark World he was supposed to die for real and be done from the MCU. Malekith would've been a proper villain.

Loki's popularity from Thor 1 and Avengers had Marvel Studios realize he was better off alive, which meant Dark World was rewritten to be more about him and less than Malekith.

Yeah, that makes sense. Loki has been one of their best villains (even if he evolved into something less villainous). A large part of that, no doubt, was because of Tom Hiddleston's magnetic performance.

Release the Taylor Cut!!
;)
They could even market it as a Divergent Cut!

Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for the Divergent Cut of Loki since we know there was a bunch of deleted scenes...

I think there was also a subplot that was cut regarding the true story of the Dark Elves, and that the version of events Odin gave were rather less than accurate (a thread that seems to have been picked up by Ragnarok.) From the deleted scenes that has been released, it's unclear whether Odin even knows that his account is wrong and it's Bor that bent the truth, or if he himself is the one obfuscating.

The overall impression I get is that there was originally a lot more courtly intrigue and politics. Whether including that would have made for a better movie (let's be honest it's still pretty drab, regardless) is difficult to say given we can only speculate, but I would be curious to at least see what was changed and why. Remember that the script was (to some extent at least) written by Markus and McFeely of 'Winter Soldier', 'Civil War', 'Infinity War', and 'Endgame' fame. So it at least deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Everything has deleted scenes. That doesn't mean that an alternate version including them would be any good. That's the whole point of deleting them. Yes, sometimes, a film is edited in a different way than the director wanted and the alternate cut is better, but audiences today have gotten into the bad habit of expecting that to be the norm rather than the exception.

You must be fun at parties.

Seriously, let people speculate and enjoy imagining what could be out there without raining all over it. Yes, we all know that, but it's still fun to speculate. Sheesh.
