The presence of Tennant and the absence of Clara (I'm blanking on the actress' name) would be the ONLY thing that would induce me to watch this. I gave up on nuWho in Capaldi's second season because I just couldn't stand the moronic, childish stories or the companion who should have died half a dozen times already but there was always some damn GOTCHA! that they'd pull out to keep her around.

Throw in Paul McGann, and I'd even record it and watch it twice.

I suppose it's probably too much to ask for Tom Baker... he's the reason I watched the last one.

Donna was a 'meh' sort of companion. A bit annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as the really awful annoying ones.

    Jenna Coleman played Clara.

I get why you didn't like her and I agree she outstayed her welcome a little too much. I prefer to think she left after "Last Christmas," ending with The Doctor returning to her as an old woman, which was a far better conclusion to her story than what we got.

I like the ninth series a lot, but I also do think that Claras best exit would have been in Last Christmas. An entirely perfect ending, too.

    But, Moffat...

Actually, I think Coleman is to blame for that one. I believe I read somewhere she said she was going to leave but then changed her mind at the last second.

Absolutely totally can't stand her or anything she has done. Came close to stopping watching while she was in it.

I'm normally supportive of fellow gingers but I make an exception for her.

yeah, but I also read Moffat saying he was hoping she'd come back as he'd sketched out series 9 but he hadn't really put a lot of thought on the companion and she came back it was more useful, or something along those lines.

Basically, I kinda wish Moffat had kept that ending for Clara, and the Clara in series 9 could have been one of her splinters that the Doctor picked up and kept her because of his adoration for any version of Clara. But that's just my fanfiction...

love Tate as Donna. That she and Ten did only one series will always be the source of great sadness for me.

Paul McGann shot scenes that aired in 2013 to coincide with the show's 50th anniversary celebrations.

I'm not sure what to think about Tennant and Tate appearing in the 60th. But they're both good actors who played good characters for the current showrunner, so there's definitely reason to be optimistic.

My reaction is the exact opposite.

I genuinely don't care if I never see Tennant's "Doctor" again, but it'll be great to see Catherine Tate / Donna. Of course, given the character destruction that happened in her final appearance there's a significant qualifier there, but anyway.

Perhaps so. I'll admit, I missed that particular sentence. I was focused on the lede sentence.

Now I might be the one who is being pedantic now, but "celebrations" could just be an umbrella term and might not necessarily mean more than one episode/event. Yes, we had tons and tons of stuff for the 50th but I don't think we'll get nearly as much for the 60th.

Like before, I'm just airing on the cautious side.

^ I don’t know, I think with the return of the man who brought the series back and a general feeling that the show needs some sort of revival/renewal, I think they’ll probably want to make the most of the 60th as a way of promoting it.

I wonder when Coleman told Moffat she was coming back? Faye Marsay's Shona is set up in Last Christmas as a potential companion I always thought, and the title "The Magician's Apprentice" really makes it sound like the Doctor will have a brand new companion I always thought.

Anyway, Tennant and Tate back. Have to say I am a little nervous, and it is a heck of a first day on the job for Gatwa, but I would hope RTD knows what he's doing. It may be that Ten and Donna are only in the episode briefly. They may be mirages from the Doctor's fevered mind as he deals with his recent regeneration.

Wonder if anyone else will be back, would obviously love to see Smith again but also Capaldi. And of course Amy and Rory, Bill, even Clara. Plus maybe even a classic Doctor...nah probably not sadly.

Anyone else get the feeling RTD's gonna have the budget to give us an anniversary episode that Moffat could only dreamed of doing when the BBC told him his budget back in 2013!

Or in their own separate thing just like 'Night of the Doctor'.

The question is will next Sunday's post from the BBC be two hearts and a bow-tie or two hearts and a pair of sunglasses.

I wouldn't be disappointed with a seasons' worth of "special" as opposed to one anniversary special. I'm sure the picture will get clearer the closer we get to 2023.

I could do without Donna. Rather have Martha back. I liked her.
I'll be curious what Big Finish will do for the anniversary. I still think they had the best story for he 50th.

The hoops people are jumping through to justify how Tenant and Tate's returns aren't for the 60th Anniversary Special directly and don't overshadow what is most likely Ncuti's official debut are kind of sad.
