The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

At the rate New Amsterdam is going with how they cure every disease and solve every problem, pretty soon everyone there will be able to live forever and the immortal cop will have more friends.

Kind of disappointed that neither of them are set in the era when NY was actually known as New Amsterdam. Either a detective show or medical show done as a period piece would be an extremely interesting one to explore. Reminds me of the novel called New York by Edward Rutherford, which starts while it's called New Amsterdam and follows the generations of several families as NY comes to grow.

Isn't that The Knick?

Ok, that explains why I hadn't heard of it. Cinemax, which we don't get in Canada. I think we get some of the programming on Crave, but some of these things just aren't very well promoted over here.

CBS has ordered a pilot for Early Edition with a female lead. Since it's CBS (Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Magnum PI, The Equalizer), 99.9999999% chance it's a remake and not a continuation.

And the casting: the lead character, Beth, will be played by Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness, Iron Fist, Men in Black III). Also starring Jay Ali (Daredevil, the rebooted Magnum P.I., The Fosters), Charles Michael Davis (The Originals, NCIS: New Orleans, Grey's Anatomy), and Fiona Rene (the I Know What You Did Last Summer t.v. series).

Well, despite its flaws, I quite enjoyed the movie, and perhaps they could do a better job this time around. I could perhaps picture Charles Dance in the Quartermain role.

It'll be a league of Hulu original programming characters, so Annie Wilkes, June Osborne, Yorick Brown, Josh Futturman, Veronica Mars, Lieutenant Commander Bortus, Pinehead and Predator. :D

Me to: it was the movie that convinced me that watching the movie before reading the book was the best order to enjoy stories. If I'd read the book first I'd have hated the movie.
