Ncuti Gatwa is the 15th Doctor

If this isn't his look for the show I'll be very disappointed.

Powergirl's chest ventilation porthole as a fashion oddity that will not die.

I have not seen any of his work before but it is going to be nice having the role not so hyped. I am optimistic about the future of Dr Who for the first time, in awhile.

I'm definitely delighted with Gatwa's casting, although I'm another one who thought they'd pick another woman for the role. Can't wait to see what kind of Doctor 14 will be or what his costume might be.

That interview shows that they went through the audition process much faster than I thought they would.

So I'm going to issue a Mea Culpa on that front.

We probably won't ever learn the answer, but I'd like to know who their original choice was.

Fair dos for saying that Digific :bolian:

It's about damn time. I missed watching WHO, and I am sure the fam will be back to watch it as well. I hope this is a game changer and will influence EON to cast Idris Elba as James Bond.

I firmly expect the next Bond, or the Bond after next to be a man of colour, but barring some kind of crazy one off placeholder film, they're not going to cast a man who'll be 50 in a few months time as the next 007. At the rate they've been making films these past few years he'd be practically the age Daniel Craig is now when his first film came out!

Rege Jean Page on the other hand is currently 34....

He's the fourth Scottish Doctor.

Given that it's been shooting there for 18 years you think they'd have thrown in a Welsh one by now. ;)

As a friend pointed out, every other modern Doctor has been Scottish ;)

I have no frame of reference as I've never seen Gatwa in anything. He's young, but comparable to Davison and Smith who are both Doctors I love. I had suspected if it was another man they'd go for a POC, but for all we know it was a gender/ethnicity blind process and until he walked in it could have been a 40 year old white guy they were planning to go with.

The 'he just came in and blew us away' line does remind me of Smith (only he was, I believe, first in not last).

I wonder if we'll ever get a woman Doctor again? I truly hope so.

My only real complaint is that he feels too young, but then I thought the same about Whittaker. I prefer an old grumpy Doctor to a young excitable Doctor. Capaldi was my favourite of the modern Doctors because just the sheer fact of his age gave him gravitas. But obviously I'm willing to see where this goes.

Other people have been saying this is not just a young Doctor or a black Doctor but a young black gay Doctor. Obviously he's most famous for playing a gay character on Sex Education, but as far as I know he himself has never said anything about his real life sexuality, so that description is rather jumping the gun.

I'm definitely delighted with Gatwa's casting, although I'm another one who thought they'd pick another woman for the role. Can't wait to see what kind of Doctor 14 will be or what his costume might be.

I think he's the one to go back to a Sixth Doctor style outfit. The Fugitive Doctor's bright African-styled colours worked wonderfully, and I'd like to see more of that.

.

For the first time since 2005, there's a Nu-Doctor Who episode I haven't seen yet. The most recent Easter Special. I just can't drum up the enthusiasm to watch it. For me, Jodie has been fine, but I haven't been excited by Chibnalll's run.

It's just nice to get a bit of news that's exciting and I always feel a thrill when RTD clobbers the Tories in answer to almost wholly unrelated questions. Honestly speaking, I wish they'd have stuck to their guns and gone with a girl again, but RTD knows what he's doing. It is great to have a black Doctor, regardless.

It's sad to say after 30 years that my passion is dead for this show right now, but I'm hopeful for what the new dawn brings.

It's weird talking about Doctor Who on this board actually. If I was Albert Einstein I'd say Doctor Who was my maths, but Star Trek was my watercolour painting.

Not sure that makes sense.

Anyway, it's all good in the hood.

I think judging by the actors oak tree hard, rakishly thin body that they'd go with something sharp. I'd like to see some colour but not Sixth Doctor level. The fella looks like he could rock some good tailoring.

And how wonderful was it to see Russell gushing with excitement on the BAFTAs red carpet. So different from Chibnall who always looked like he'd rather be anywhere else than promoting the show.
