non-profound DS9 questions

A few more questions:

10) Why are Jem’Hadar fighters much more effective against Galaxy-class ships than runabouts? (beyond just the maneuverability of runabouts)

11) Would you rather hang out at Vic’s or Fair Haven?

12) We know the Bajor-end of the wormhole had special significance to the Prophets. Did the Gamma end have any special significance to them, or purely random?

13) Could the Founders all speak in unison in a Borg-style voice: “We are the Founders. No way in Hades are we adding your biological distinctiveness to our own. Your existence is futile…” :borg: ;)

14) Does the station have a barber?

15) Where did Odo’s communicator go when he took the form of certain objects, like a drinking glass or a flat panel? (both of which he did in a couple episodes)

16) In the premiere, why did the Cardassians give up taking DS9 as soon as it became 10X more strategically valuable because of the wormhole? (Dukat’s damaged ship could’ve still provided troops for an occupying presence.)

17) If they ever retired the station, would it just float around aimlessly like Empok Nor?

18) How did they fit 2 baseball teams into the holosuite for a game?

A few more questions:

[]15) Where did Odo’s communicator go when he took the form of certain objects, like a drinking glass or a flat panel? (both of which he did in a couple episodes)

Perhaps he didn't need to, the communicator being a part of himself in the first place. After all, if they can mimic any object to such a degree that not even the best scanning equipment can tell the difference, why wouldn't they be able to mimic functioning equipment?

10) Why are Jem’Hadar fighters much more effective against Galaxy-class ships than runabouts? (beyond just the maneuverability of runabouts)
A. Ablative plot armor. Even tougher than the real thing. What I want to know is why didn't the Odyssey separate, given that it was headed into combat?

11) Would you rather hang out at Vic’s or Fair Haven?
Fair Haven. I'd go tromping through the Irish hills.

12) We know the Bajor-end of the wormhole had special significance to the Prophets. Did the Gamma end have any special significance to them, or purely random?
A. Did they even know there was a gamma quadrant end, before Sisko discovered it?

13) Could the Founders all speak in unison in a Borg-style voice: “We are the Founders. No way in Hades are we adding your biological distinctiveness to our own. Your existence is futile…” :borg: ;)
A. I don't think so, unless they formed multiple voice boxes, tracheas, and mouths.

14) Does the station have a barber?
A. Given all the short-haired males aboard, it would have to.

15) Where did Odo’s communicator go when he took the form of certain objects, like a drinking glass or a flat panel? (both of which he did in a couple episodes)
Generally, his communicator is supposed to be floating inside when he's in liquid form.

16) In the premiere, why did the Cardassians give up taking DS9 as soon as it became 10X more strategically valuable because of the wormhole? (Dukat’s damaged ship could’ve still provided troops for an occupying presence.)
They probably didn't know it was a stable wormhole yet.

17) If they ever retired the station, would it just float around aimlessly like Empok Nor?
Unless they broke it up for raw material.

18) How did they fit 2 baseball teams into the holosuite for a game?
Holosuite physics are best not thought about too much, since they make no sense whatsoever.

10) Why are Jem’Hadar fighters much more effective against Galaxy-class ships than runabouts? (beyond just the maneuverability of runabouts)

I suppose they could have tried to ram the runabouts as well...

11) Would you rather hang out at Vic’s or Fair Haven?

Vic's: easiest question ever.

12) We know the Bajor-end of the wormhole had special significance to the Prophets. Did the Gamma end have any special significance to them, or purely random?

Was there any planet or civilization nearby at all?

13) Could the Founders all speak in unison in a Borg-style voice: “We are the Founders. No way in Hades are we adding your biological distinctiveness to our own. Your existence is futile…” :borg: ;)

Maybe: I doubt they've ever tried.

14) Does the station have a barber?

Probably.

15) Where did Odo’s communicator go when he took the form of certain objects, like a drinking glass or a flat panel? (both of which he did in a couple episodes)

Maybe he had it rigged to a transporter protocol and beamed it to his office?

16) In the premiere, why did the Cardassians give up taking DS9 as soon as it became 10X more strategically valuable because of the wormhole? (Dukat’s damaged ship could’ve still provided troops for an occupying presence.)

They'd signed a treaty and didn't want to start a war with the Federation they couldn't win.

17) If they ever retired the station, would it just float around aimlessly like Empok Nor?

Up to the Bajorans: it could be a museum or they could scuttle it or whatever.

18) How did they fit 2 baseball teams into the holosuite for a game?

...Force fields?

14) Does the station have a barber?

I see no reason for barbers to exist in the 24th century in the first place (even though I know about Mott the barber). Just beam your hair away, and then rematerialize at the length (and model) desired. You probably wouldn't even need a fully fledged transporter for that, just a smaller house appliance. You'd be done in seconds, with a perfect haircut.

12) We know the Bajor-end of the wormhole had special significance to the Prophets. Did the Gamma end have any special significance to them, or purely random?
Canonwise we do not know.

In the First Splinter timeline of the novels, the Idran system and its inhabitants were the other species the Prophets looked after. When the Bajorans learn they aren't their parent's doted-over only child, it becomes a small religious issue for some to accept. But because the Idran people are practically gone, the issue goes away by itself.

That's still a barber of sorts.

Interesting that we see very few guys with beards and almost none with ponytails... I would think that traditional hair lengths would have been "out" even by the 22nd century.

A few more questions:
11) Would you rather hang out at Vic’s or Fair Haven?

Fair Haven. Vic's is inside Quark's and I prefer Quark's so I don't imagine I'd go to Vic's more than once. It looked like anyone could edit the Fair Haven program so I would edit it to make it much less of a stereotype. Or totally commit to it being unrealistic and add dragons in the style of How To Train Your Dragon. Then I would lock the program so Tom couldn't change it back.

12) We know the Bajor-end of the wormhole had special significance to the Prophets. Did the Gamma end have any special significance to them, or purely random?

That's actually a very complicated question. I think it would depend on how long the Gamma end was in any one place. (I can't remember whether they said if the Gamma end was fixed, clearly I need to re-watch DS9.) If the Gamma end was in the same place for a long time, then probably. But if the prophets saying "we are of Bajor" means they originated from Bajor then maybe not, Bajor might have more significance to them. Or perhaps they have a different reason that the other end has special significance. There's also the question of whether they have control over the locations of the ends of the wormhole - that may or may not affect how they feel too.

13) Could the Founders all speak in unison in a Borg-style voice: “We are the Founders. No way in Hades are we adding your biological distinctiveness to our own. Your existence is futile…” :borg: ;)

I doubt it unless they are partly linked at the same time.

14) Does the station have a barber?

Yes, it's right next to the beauty salon.

15) Where did Odo’s communicator go when he took the form of certain objects, like a drinking glass or a flat panel?

I have never considered that before. No idea.

Edited to try to fix formatting.

You know, that gave me a funny thought. Tom is in the holodeck, talking to Seamus, the drunk panhandling dude...

TOM: "You know, I haven't seen Frannie Sullivan in awhile. Do you know what happened to her?"

SEAMUS: "Frannie Sullivan? Never heard of her."

TOM: "Frances Sullivan. You know, Michael's wife." (Seamus only shrugs) "Computer, locate character Frances Sullivan."

COMPUTER: "Frances Sullivan was deleted from the Fair Haven program on Stardate 52525."

TOM (sighs): "I hate it when people mess with my programs. Computer, restore Frances Sullivan and return her to the simulation."

COMPUTER: "Character restoration complete."

Moments later, horrible screams from the Sullivan's chambers above the bar, and Janeway goes running through the room and out the door, chased by Frannie, who is swearing loudly and wielding a rather large rolling pin.

TOM: "Oh, crap."

Oops, I might have slipped in a profound question by accident! ;) I feel like the series could've spent at least a few episodes on that, if they chose to, regarding any significance of the wormhole's Gamma placement.

Pretty much. Multiple times, it took half a dozen quantum torpedoes to destroy 1 Jem'Hadar fighter, but they were no match for runabouts!

For the Odyssey, I guess they didn't want to leave behind half their firepower and show up headless, so to speak. Hopefully they left behind families and kids on DS9. But they were pretty much out of the fight with the first volley from the Jem'Hadar.
