Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I really hope it wasn't done to clear the way for the old class.

That’s what grates with me the most. I like Rios and Jurati, and the actors who portray them. I don’t particularly care for the rest of the TNG characters (Picard and Data were the only ones I ever really liked) and they’ve well and truly had their time in the sun. The idea that enjoyable characters are being shoved aside - or worse - for them is putting me off S3.

TBH, the attitude that only Picard's story matters and all other characters are in service to that end makes me a little apprehensive for the TNG reunion. I don't want to see any of them sacrificed to further Picard's narrative either.

Either way Jurati isn’t dead. She’s in there with the Queen, merged into a single being.

Though, if Rios isn’t in season 3, I wonder who the captain of the Stargazer is going to be? I guess Picard could take command.

On a side note, and I don't know if mentioned before: PIC is the only series which does not make usage of the original series typefont for the words 'Star Trek', but instead, uses the updated variation initially created for DSC S1 and S2. From DSC S3 onwards, ALL series have used the original TOS font (DSC, LDS, PRO, SNW), except PIC... They made a clear attempt to unify the ST logo, wonder why it wasn't done for PIC as well......?

And for that reason alone it will never be allowed into the sacred halls of canon. Always doomed to live forever in the dark forbidden zone that is head-canon.

Raffi? Riker? Worf? Geordi? Beverly? Deanna?

Okay, probably not Deanna. (Just because she’s not been in uniform for awhile from the last we knew.)

It’s a bit of a stretch but they’ve brought it up: Seven?

I don't disagree with you here, although I like more characters than you. I think I'll be happy seeing Worf and Riker again (even though we already saw Riker in season 1) and to a lesser extent Geordi (mainly because of LeVar rather than the character). But yea, they had 177 episodes and 4 movies to shine. Having them appear in the season is fine, or throughout the show's run as needed like in Nepenthe, would have been fine. Sidelining the main cast of one show in order to bring in an old cast back for "another" final farewell isn't really sitting well with me.

I wonder if Michael Dorn bent their arm to use any of his 'Captain Worf' ideas?

Right. So, not Jurati. The Borg Queen, kinder and gentler. They're a single entity, a single consciousness, and they're done reenacting the Odd Couple inside one skull.

Or maybe not. A piece is still being overlooked if the writers had enough coffee that day.

Given that we know that the Stargazer sets will play a much bigger part in S3, one random thing I've wondered was if the Stargazer scenes in the first episode were shot much later on, or did they really build that set as part of S2 pre-production?

De Lancie said that they were shooting some season 3 scenes while they were still shooting season 2 (which led to speculation as to whether Q is in season 3 or not). Maybe this has to do with that somehow.

I still hope the last two seasons will end up being Picard realizing he never actually woke up from dying, and this has all been his personal journey through a form of purgatory to his ascension to a higher form of being.

That's not really fair to all the others, particularly Jeri's Seven, who will have all of their work and character development shunted into "It's a dream" territory.

By contrast, I think season 1 has some of the best worldbuilding in Star Trek.

Is the Stargazer even going to be in season 3?
They're using all the sets they built for it at least. Drexler posted a photo from Season 3 filming on the bridge on his Facebook page.

He had to blur one of the tactical station screens because it had a ship shaped spoiler on it.

THAT would be a ballsy bit of writing.
