IIRC, young Robert spent most of his days out working in the fields, tending the winery. Jean-Luc was much more of an indoor kid. So it makes perfect sense that Yvette confided in Jean-Luc more than Robert; thus, Robert wouldn't be part of any of these flashbacks.

(Likewise, I suspect that Maurice got along better with Robert than with Jean-Luc, because they were more alike as well.)

It's like Quark and Rom on DS9. Quark always took after Ishka, while Rom was much more like Keldar.

From that I extrapolated that Every time they make a new set of Androids, The little bit of Data they made the twins from is also there and is a fully developed consciousness who asks to be killed please.

It's also worth noting that Jean-Luc reconciled with Robert in Family - well before his death. Holding enough resentment against Robert to have him part of this weird mental fantasy would really cut against that character growth - not to mention be completely irrelevant to a story about his relationship with his parents.

He resents Robert for dying, but he resents Rene for Dying even more.

Jean-Luc, when he was still alive, was last Picard.

I wonder if these people would be yelling at fans for complaining how awful Shades of Gray was when it aired. Or Threshold. Or The Way to Eden. Or any other horrible Star Trek episode over the years, because we've had a lot of them.

Yes, probably. One person's garbage is another person's treasure after all.

These people would be screaming at complaining fans to "StOp WaTcHiNg." If an episode sucks, it sucks. Stop taking it personal. Trek has a long history with crappy episodes, and fans have every right to complain about them while continuing to watch (because it always gets better).

And fans are going to react too. Isn't that funny...

It's also possible that his mother's mental issues worsened over time, which meant they weren't as notable during the formative period of Robert's childhood.

Actually, if you watch that scene again, there's a moment in which we see Rios tapping out commands on the Captains chair.
He was probably well aware that with all the commotion on the bridge, the computer might not hear his verbal code in the couple of moments before it was too late.

If any of these characters was Q in disguise, IMHO it's much more likely that it was indeed Agent Wells rather than Maurice.

Granted, I'm not reading every post in this thread. I'll post my thoughts and respond to people with questions/comments. But do you honestly believe there's some massive wave of trolls coming in here to trash this particular episode, or other episodes?

I want to enjoy these shows because Star Trek has had such a tremendous impact on my life. But sometimes the shows are bad. This one was terrible. Maybe the next one will be good. Good lord, not every negative opinion is just people trolling.

An excellent catch, and another entirely believable explanation – there is no reason why these codes have to be delivered verbally rather than typed out after all

You mean the fundamental field replicator with a neurocotamic interface? (Yeah, Jurati gave it a technobabble explanation that would normally be all that Trek fans need to feel good about a new piece of tech, but because the 'use your imagination' bit had already come first, no one registered the techie explanation).

Rios was trying to reassure Theresa, to help her feel better. The device was simple enough to use, and being able to help her patient both reassured her and convinced her that Rios was genuine. If he'd used the device himself, she'd probably have freaked out all the more about what he was going to do with it.

Star Trek has a long established history of people beaming over to unfamiliar ships and just immediately intuiting how to use the controls. It's easy to imagine that by the 25th century these implements will have a smart mode so they can be used by any crew member in an emergency too.

The Borg Queen connected the fleet to the Stargazer (per the dialogue). That's why the fleet was destroyed also.
