Spoilers Season 3 Cast Announcement

You know after today's PICARD, I suspect that Rios is going to stay behind in the 21st Century. So that next season they only ones left of the new cast will be Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan.

Rios/Doc will tell Raffi/Marty he's not going with them. He's staying with Clara/Doctor.

If we keep up with the BTTF Theme.

...And then at the memorial service in the future an enormous steampunk starship will suddenly appear from the past and Rios will introduce everyone else to his kids...

Haven’t seen this posted but Spiner confirms Data is dead and won’t be in S3.

I don't know if I'm missing anything in this article, but it mentions that him not playing Data was a stipulation for his contract this season.

I know he's previously said he won't play Data again, but the wording in this article actually makes me he's specifically trying not to say he won't be paying Data in season 3.

I'm torn. Data's passing in season 1 truly did feel like it should be his end, but the fanboy in me would quite like a STIII homage, like was mentioned by someone earlier in the thread, just for the hell of it.

well I’ll be damned I totally mis-read the article. Your right he says this season, not S3. I still think he plays a Soong but I guess there is a crack in the door.

that’s what I get for reading, posting and working through my lunch break.

I'm disgusted by the whole rollout.

P+ is trying to hype S3 when Season TWO isn't even finished yet! It's a slap in the face to the current cast who worked so hard on it! :scream:

P+ dropped the ball on this one. :shifty:
Nah, it's not that bad. The only thing we learn from the S3 sneak peek is that Picard isn't dead. Of course he won't be, because why would there be a third season of a show dedicated to him if that were the case.

On the contrary, this adds to the hype surrounding this series. We get to look forward to an adventure with ALL our old friends. Count me in.

Maybe they were getting a bit a head of things because 1 or 2 of them are gonna show up in the S2 finale.

If anyone should be mad it would be the SNW folks as after a week of daily trailers this one just stole all the hype.

Certainly when we hear Spiner's voice in the trailer it's not Data. "Evolution is not an act of preservation, it's addition." certainly sounds like a Soong-esque line to me.

Hmm - wasn't there a post saying the cast were mostly elsewhere during s3 filming?

Rios - will he stay with his Dr? Or does she come with? If so who will take command of the Stargazer? Raffi? Admiral Picard?
Soji - I'm sure the TNG crew would be charmed to meet Data's daughter
Agnes - Surely she's mindf*d now by the Borg Queen?!
Seven - we know she's back
Raffi - see Seven
Elnor - presumably revived. Hopefully a junior crewmember in s3

Some of them have had other things going on, but they haven't been mostly elsewhere, as far as I know. Just occasionally elsewhere, for the most part. Isa Briones did an in-person convention and then a few months later went on the Trek cruise, while S3 was filming. Insta shows that Santiago Cabrera spent a couple of weeks on the Flight Attendant set back in the autumn, and also spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Grand Canyon and visited family in Chile over Christmas, which some here have interpreted as 'going travelling' and therefore being unavailable for work, but production would have been shut down for both of those holiday periods and he seems to have been in LA the whole of the rest of the time. Allison Pill has apparently been working on another show, but I don't have details. I'm not sure about Evan Evagora.

And honestly, I don't know how much we can read into any of that, given that this is a show that isn't afraid to have main cast members off-screen for multiple episodes at a time. So the characters for those four might be written out completely at the end of this season, or they may just drift in and out of season three. Or there might be something else going on entirely. We don't know.

Personally, I think it would be a shame to lose any of them and miss out on the chance of developing their characters further as the new generation of legacy characters to take forward into the 25th century when this show is over. Future-proofing the franchise by at least keeping them all alive and active in 2401 when this season is done and dusted seems like a no-brainer to me, to have those characters available for at least the possibility of future use. But whether the producers see it that way is another matter entirely.

Doctor Ramirez is the masked Borg Queen and these nuBorg are their kids!!!

That massive ship was their version of your steampunk starship idea.

They captured and studied some Borg we didn't see on Earth during the incursion of 2063.

It's....timey wimey.

I'm gonna admit that even since Terry Matalas (EP/showrunner) started teasing the Starfleet interiors on twitter that has had me more interested in s3 than s2 (which is possibly a story that can be told in half the time?!) and the cast announcement overshadowed e206 for me.

Fro me Star Trek is a crew of Starfleet officers on a Federation ship, in uniform. I was skeptical about spending most of the season in 21st Century LA. I've been obsessed with Star Trek: Picard however since Day 1 and I thank Season 1 for challenging my perceptions and not doing the 'bleeding obvious same-old, same-old'

I'm a TNG boy, I have wanted another go at a new finale since Nemesis, and now it's finally happening.

He did the Trek cruise with Isa, and did some work on 'The Quarry', a survival game. But the first, like with Isa, may very well depend on what order scenes were filmed in, and the second was likely just line recording.

I don't have a lot of faith in the producers understanding the importance of legacy after S1, but fingers crossed. I like this cast a lot.

I agree that he'll probably play a Soong for most of it (probably Altan), but I do suspect we might get some brief Data scenes while the rest are reminiscing or some such.

This season hasn't demonstrated they will treat legacy like gods?
I mean Picard has been talked down a few times just like Season 1.

They wanted to get ahead of any leaks.
It's not a slap in the face of the current cast at all.

Legacy characters don't need or deserve special treatment.
No, but this discussion thread developed out of a conversation about how many of the new Pic cast will still be with us in S3, and the main point was that if S3 represents a final hurrah for the TNG cast, passing the baton to a new generation to take the franchise into the 25th century, it would make sense to leave as many as possible of the new cast standing, in order to have established characters to build on for any potential spin-off, rather than killing any of them off or leaving anyone behind in the 21st century. Why start again from scratch when so much groundwork has already been laid? Why cut off such potential in its prime?

But whether the producers see it that way or not remains to be seen.
