What classic novels would you like to see adapted?

I would love to see the producers of SNW adapt Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens's novel Prime Directive. I think the story would probably work well for Pike and his crew and isn't dependent on the unique personal chemistry of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

Of course they can. But adapting a novel is also a difficult skill that deserves respect.

I wasn't disrespecting adapting a novel at all. And I am aware of the difficulty in adaptation. And am working on an adaption of a prose work right now.

But if I were staffed on a TREK show, the last thing I'd want to do is adapt someone else's TREK book. Because I have ideas of my own that I'd rather write. Which I'm sure is the same for those in the SNW writer's room.

I’m not bothered if they mine from novels for worldbuilding purposes, plots, developing character backstories, and new characters (ex. Burning Dreams, Vulcan’s Glory, Legacy, The Captain’s Oath, The Children of Kings, The Rift, Child of Two Worlds, Captain to Captain, Final Frontier, Crisis on Vulcan, etc.). Just as I’m not bothered if they mine the Early Voyages comics for the same reasons. But I’m not expecting full adaptations of these stories. I’m expecting new, original stories.
True. While I would like to see some full adaptations of the books, I wouldn't mind just seeing snippets taken and reused on the show.

That is also what I'm hoping for.

None.

The writers can come up with their own stuff without having to adapt the novels.
From reading everyone's point of view, this is a good point to consider. After seeing various onscreen adaptations of the X-Men's Phoenix saga, I cringed at how the some of the live-action stuff was handled, versus the one we got for the early 90s X-Men animated series. Some of content just didn't translate well from the pages to the screen and I was dismayed with a few of the other changes because of my expectations from reading those comics years beforehand.

It'd be cool if they had background computer screens referencing former Pike-era crewmembers from the old comics and novels. IIRC most of the Pike-era stuff is set loooooooong before SNW, just around "The Cage" so there should be lots of wiggle room for Nano or Moves With Burning Grace to have been on board.

Dreadnought

It's a Diane Carey novel, so one of the better ones, plus we'd get to see a kewl 3 nacelled ship!

No. In the book the Lexington shows up to save the day with Starfleet marines.
Unless I'm remembering it differently, I could have sworn it was the Enterprise answering the Lexington's distress signal of a Romulan attack? But back to your point, I wouldn't mind the marines.

I don't recall the sequence of events, since a starship patrol is assigned to "Planet Guardian" which tips off the Romulans as a possible military outpost. Regardless, the Marines are a part of the mop up, ordered by Commodore Wesley.
