TMP-DE fully restored in 4K…it’s about time!

At least we’re still a million light years away from Star Wars and the “special editions”. I agree in principle, quit trying to “perfect” the original content—although I don’t think I’d have ever, ever have noticed the changes as noted above.

Agreed! This kind of lack of vision with these tired retcons display these structures was there all along and Star Trek never had an evolution. I thought it was okay for productions to honor the work done from the previous artists and clean it up, but I find it so disrespectful for modern SFX employees to go back and re-imagine what was done to match what the later movies had developed.
Audiences understand buildings and fixtures get destroyed and later replaced, but there's this need in Hollywood to stamp their egos anyway possible to be relevant. The artists from TVH, and the later incarnations of Trek, who are still alive are still shrouding their influence to springboard these ego driven "Easter Eggs" on these restoration projects. These annoying facelifts are not done for the betterment of the film, or the audience, but for themselves.

And they didn't. Of course, the pics on the screens are probably rotating screensavers. ;)
Yeah I always figures that was the case and I wouldn't be bothered if a couple of the ships changed screens in that scene but I think I care more about character interactions than the minutiae. I never even noticed half of these 'errors'. I was just enjoying the movie!

Well, it wasn't an error in 1979, since the NX-01 didn't exist at the time.

Why the hell WOULD they feel the need to change any of the ships in the rec room scene? It was never intended to be a comprehensive list.

Decker says "All those vessels were called Enterprise." He does NOT say "Those were all the ships called Enterprise."

(for example, only one of the aircraft carrier Enterprises was shown...)

Here's my lame April Fool's joke to specific forums I take part in.

Gawd dangit. It would appear that the negatives featuring the scenes from the Special Longer Version couldn't be located so those scenes will be upscaled for the 4K release. That was a big fear of mine when this project was announced. Kind of makes sense why none of those scenes were featured in the trailers or talk about until now.

I would agree the TMP restoration project is generally more restrained than the various SW revisions. They still couldn't resist the urge to easter egg in a TOS-style shuttle in one shot (presumably that's still in there). I actually find that more controversial than the fan debate about throwing the NX-01 in.

Looking forward to the reaction when we see said shuttle is now the DSC/SNW version...:rommie:

The Kurtzman Trek people don't know how to do anything other than "listen to the fans." Because most of them lack any real creative convictions of their own.

And the fans will lead you wrong every time. Too many of them prefer a perfectly conformed canon with a bow wrapped around it (a la Berman Trek) over having an actual original and interesting story.

If that's the criteria then TMP fails as Trek too.
Even TOS, in its short run, rehashed story elements. Hell, the female crewmember falling for the villain was used twice, and almost three times, until somebody pointed out that having McGivers and Masters betraying the crew just a few episodes apart might look a bit silly. I think people are just looking for confirmation bias.

There is a ton of silly stuff in the new Trek and I lament the fact that they don't seem to take the basics of the fictional science seriously but there was a ton of silly stuff in earlier Trek too.
