TMP-DE fully restored in 4K…it’s about time!

So, did they restore any voice for the universal translator, or is the automated audio translation of what the Klingon captain is saying in the intercepted transmission still axed?

The 4K of "Star Trek - The Motion Picture: The Director's Edition" is now streaming from Paramount+ here in Sydney, Australia! Sometimes time travel has its advantages!

The clarity of the San Franciso scene, in particular, was wonderful. The alien ambassadors are so clear you can almost read the labels on their underwear!

Subtitles say 82 AUs, his voice only says 2 :D
The guy fleeing from Epsilon IX still bumps into an invisible wall, I thought they'd remove that

Unless my hearing is playing tricks on me, it sounds like the dialogue has been remixed, I’m guessing they must have gone back to the original audio stems to create the new sound mix? It really became apparent to me when Kirk was speaking with Sonak. It sounds more natural. I wish I could be more articulate on how to describe the difference.

It's a compromise! There is a wall half-way into the area :D

This is more purple than I remember:

And in the end, it faces the camera instead of showing us its side...

Worked the graveyard shift and decided to watch this as the day ended. Not a fan of the glittering outlines of the credits.
I was hoping this version of the Paramount logo would be used, but they went with the static vintage version instead.

Can definitely tell the audio has been remastered as the ADR lines sound clearer and I believe in some cases are alternates. Disappointed to still see several blue screen spills in many of the faulty special effects shots of the original. It appears only some elements were recomposited, but definitely not all as reported. The observation lounge scene with Kirk, Spock and McCoy is pretty dodgy with the outlines of the actors pretty apparent with a loss in quality noticeable and won’t do any favors in 4K. The final shot with Spock and McCoy wearing opposite colors on their jackets was fixed.

I noticed that they changed the end of the V'ger flyover, the enterprise now turns toward the rear for V'ger. The Officer's lounge now matches the interior shown when Spock flies in.

Just finished it. It was pretty good. I’ve never seen the directors cut before so seeing those addition scenes was nice. For some reason, the scene they were going through V’Ger reminded me of Alien. The theatrical version never gave me that feeling. Must have been the music.

V’Ger’s new design does look like something from Species 8472.

Yeah, that scene looks **rough**. There's one shot where Kirk and McCoy look like blurry VHS quality cutouts.

I really like the new sound mix. Hearing the final scene of the movie where the Enterprise goes to warp in surround sound was really cool! I SWEAR they added new sound effects!

Yeah, I was pretty alarmed by just how low quality the image was in places during that. Bones' face almost disappears into nothing but clumped pixels and soft edges at one point.
