Latest acquisition!

With some money I got for my birthday, I treated myself to Dave Addey's Typeset in the Future (complete with a chapter about Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and an interview with Mike Okuda) - seen here presented by my favourite little box-fox, Rutherford :adore:

This book expands on the studies that can be found on Dave Addey's website - also called Typeset in the Future - and contains interviews and other additional guides and studies. I can't wait to pour through this!

I got this as a Christmas gift last year and I really enjoyed it - who knew there was such an overlap between font geeks and SF fans?

Seekers 3 - Long Shot and 4 - All that's left have arrived as there probably won't be a German translation anytime soon.

New Star Trek purchases
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

New comics from IDW: "Star Trek: The Mirror War" #5 and "Star Trek: Discovery: Adventures in the 32nd Century" #2, focusing on Adira and Gray.

An unexpected eBay find: a fellow Australian seller had this undated Filmation TAS cel catalogue. It contains colour cover, a suggested price guide, colour reproduction prints of 48 character cels and 48 large b/w photocopies of each one.

New Trek stuff

Goodies this week: IDW's "Star Trek: Ferengi" one-shot comic book; Titan's "Star Trek Explorer" magazine #2; IDW's "Star Trek: Year Five" reprint omnibus, concluding the story arc which sets up events for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"; and a glow-in-the-dark lion fish, perfect for Captain Picard's aquarium.

Love the Andorian cameo:

and a kzin (from "The Slaver Weapon", TAS) and an Ithenite (gold-skinned ambassador from "Journey to Babel").

This week's haul:

Geeky Trek stuff
by Ian McLean, on Flickr

Wil Wheaton's "Still Just a Geek: An Annotated Memoir" (HarperCollins, 2022) autobiographical collection of writings; and the IDW reprint of DC Comics' iconic, post-Star Trek II "The Mirror Universe Saga" comics. I already have the DC omnibus and the original issues, but that new JK Woodward cover art is stunning and hard to leave on the shelf. (The ReAction Wesley Crusher action figure stands next to my Will Wheaton custom.)

And...

and an Andorian inside!

After a bit of a hiatus, I'm back with a narrower focus for a while: printers' errors. The copy of Yesterday's Son that I posted earlier inspired me. It has really turned into a dedicated hunt. Fun, too.

Seems like Pocket was having some problems back in the 80s. First print Trek novels had foil-like titles for a while, embossing, etc. Maybe the equipment was troublesome.

Here is another copy of Yesterday's Son with the title shifted south and overlapping the author's name. Followed by a copy of The Trellisane Confrontation that shifted even more. I will get some better images when these arrive. They come from the same lot of books from a thrift shop on ebay. Other possible errors in the lot include Black Fire, Uhura's Song, and Demons. I just have to get better looks at them when they get here.

I did the retailer incentive cover for the Discovery comic!

Didn't @GeekFilter specify the Discovery comic, though? Presumably that would be this one:

(Which is all kinds of cute, BTW. Nice work! :D )
Yup that's it! A bit of a Calvin & Hobbes 'Spaceman Spiff' homage. The first draft was much more Sunday comic strip look but something about it seemed almost unfinished or just the wrong style for the medium so I gave it a Neo-Gold Key polish. I am pretty happy with how this turned out! Next month's was a lot of fun too:

I went back and forth about picking this up. I have the original issues and the 1991 DC trade paperback, and while the paper in this IDW edition would be nicer and the cover is fantastic, I couldn' pull the trigger. Woodward's Mirror Spock gives me Al Pacino vibes. :)
