Surely something good happened to you today

So sorry you had to suffer with food poisoning on your anniversary. (Congrats on your 18th!) Did he hold your hair back for you while you puked up your guts?

My girlfriend called me this morning to tell me that she'd been promoted. She applied for and interviewed for the head of DSHS/Child Protective Services in Grant County, WA. They called this morning to let her know her application had been accepted.

When I congratulated her, she said, "It's a lot of responsibility."

I replied, "You're a single mom who's raised three kids on her own, and earned a BA and MA in Social and Child Services before you turned forty. Now you're heading the very department that was threatening to take your children away when you lost your job and you were homeless. I say you're more than ready to handle the responsibility."

I am diabetic and have a lot of dietary restrictions and no-no's. I went to my favorite local sandwich shop today and asked if they had sourdough bread and they don't, so I just ordered chicken salad in a cup, no bread, or crackers. It was very good, which was a nice surprise. Something new I can eat for lunch! My diet gets pretty boring and predictable so this new item makes me happy.

I'm in a similar situation. I've found a lot of ways to flavour hard-boiled eggs.

I've had a lot of good news these past few days:

- the baseball lockout is over and there will be a season this year

- Joe Buck is leaving Fox (THANK FREAKING GOD! )

- got tickets to see COME FROM AWAY - for the sixth time, I might add - in NYC this August

Hmm... Sports, musical theatre, and "Buck" and "Fox" in the same sentence.

You busy next weekend?

A crew has been here working on the floors for about 5 hrs. I feel sorry for them, but at least the floors look like we were told they would.

Hubby also got his Tesla charger installed in the garage. Now it should charge about 30/40 miles every hour instead of 12. Cost a hell of a lot but there aren't enough super-chargers in our area, so he really needed it.

I am having the darnedest luck recently encountering cool rides.

What does adding something like that do to the monthly electric bill, is it really cheaper than gas?

I usually manage to keep my bill amount below the tier 2 line billing amount but if I get lazy, leave lights and stuff on it will jump up to tier 2 and the higher price for that is shocking to me.

Huh, those sneaky bastards.... I had regular incandescent bulbs until a few years ago. I was always in tier 1 but was happy to get a lower bill by changing all my bulbs to LED. Spent a fortune but they pay back with low use and long life, right?

Yeah it did at first, but those sneaky bastards figured out I was using less electricity so they lowered my tier level again to keep me dancing on the line. Sneaky bastards.

I imagine charging a car keeps you up in the tier 3 level?

I have no idea about "tiers." We just have one bill and rate never changes no matter whether we use a little or a lot. Our electric bill for the new house has been pretty good. The old house was drafty as hell and has a POS air conditioner, so bills were super high for 5 months of every year. So far, this house has been pretty good with the electric bill. We'll see how much hubby's charger adds to it.

It varies of course depending on your electric rates and your car's power consumption per mile.

It's not hard to calculate if you have the information in front of you, found online for your particular make and model:
Vehicle battery max kw/h / max range in miles = kw/h per mile
Your average daily mileage * kw/h per mile = avg daily kw/h use
electric rate per kw/h * avg daily kw/h use = avg daily cost.
Avg daily cost * days per billing cycle = additional cost on your bill.

Note: you can skip a step if you have odometer readings from year-end to year-end and divide by 12. (my insurance company finds them interesting.) Since your mileage may vary by month according to holidays and vacation trips, an avg throughout the year might be more informative.
