Game The Most Disliked Holodeck Episode

Both Fair Haven and TATV proved to unexpectedly have one fan, and that's all they needed.

I wouldn't call myself a massive fan of TATV but while it is a lousy series finale it really isn't a bad episode per se, the holodeck angle is actually a clever idea to do TNG guest appearances and had it aired earlier in the season most people probably wouldn't mind it so much, just remove Trips death and it is a fine episode in a "OMG it's TNG" box.

I am not surprised "Spirit Folk" won. Truly, one of the least loved Trek outings! I'm rewatching Voyager now along with the Delta Flyers podcast, it's going to be tough when they reach "Spirit Folk" and I must watch it for (I think) only the third time.

The 2020 Most Disliked winner of this game was (ha!) "Fair Haven"

Remarkably, we have met 28 new regular characters in the franchise since the last time that list was played!

Still a fairly straightforward one, though. "Okona" was only (really) boring; "Spirit Folk" was downright infuriating.

I agree with the sentiment about TATV. Omit Trip's death, set it midseason, and you have a satisfactory piece of fanservice.

Agreed, if you also lose the Prometheus connection. It was a very flimsy connection, and the idea Riker was playing in the holodeck while they're stuck in an asteroid or facing down Romulans is...odd.

Indeed! I also think if TATV had been an earlier-in-the-season episode, they might have seen that they didn't need STAKES in the Riker side of it. He can just be going to the holodeck! Ideally during a long warp on the Titan, so he and Troi didn't have to try to play 12 years younger than they actually were, and we could have gotten to see more of their vibe as a married couple.

I really thought These Are The Voyages would be the last episode standing.

It should have been.

Outrageous Okona is not that bad. I mean, it is bad, but not THAT bad.

And I think there are wirse VOY holodeck episodes than Spirit Folk.

But it is hard to argue with any of the last couple.

"Okona", in theory, has a bit of potential. But it was one heck of a misfire. The cast certainly did their party in playing it so straight. And Ron Jones too for elevating enough scenes. And William Campbell by letting Okona work that Blake's 7 outfit so nicely. (Note: His hairstyle needs to make a comeback, too...) Plus, the Data/Okona scenes were admittedly amazing, with Spiner's laugh in one scene upping the ante that much more...

I even have to respect they're daring enough to try a lighthearted episode while mixing some serious material. It just can't quite pull it off. Especially when Spiner and Goldberg have acting chemistry that outdoes hapless Piscopo way too quickly, and the joke material - despite comedy being subjective - still needed a second thought. The youtube video showing the sped-up sequence slowed down is the one type of joke you'd never want to teach Data about. Not to mention the other plot, the "Romeo and Juliet meets Three's Company" routine. It's by far the better subplot... Not to mention the lamest deck 6 joke ever devised, as the door reveals they're on deck 8... and, of course, the actual room number after that.

"Spirit Folk" deserved to win. /2c
