If they don’t use the TMP/TNG theme they don’t have to pay royalties to the original composer…just saying!
It would be his Estate at this point (Goldsmith died in 2004) and they have used parts of it before.

I believe in this case it was just a creative decision by the episodes composer to not use it extensively.

yes, of course.

in season one. But different season, different contracts. I can totally see someone pointing out how much budget they spent for episode to use it and decide they could spend it somewhere else (typical television thing, quite normal). Probably a Variant of the same reason something similar to the Voyager theme that’s not QUITE the voyager theme plays on lower decks when Paris shows up.

And btw, Picard used the voyager theme for real for 7 of 9, but clearly they have a bigger budget than lower decks and can afford it for a couple of episodes.

Just rewatched (couldn’t resist), the First Contact theme is definitely there and definitely intentional: it’s a bar or so, not only a couple of notes. Very peculiar choice!

Speaking of music, the TMP/TNG theme plays when Picard enters the bridge of the stargazer, but my reasoning still stands, at least for now: paying royalties to use it in a single (or a few) episode is still cheaper than having it in the titles each time.

It bothers me that Picard is a-ok confronting the actual, active, extremely dangerous Borg here after having a panic attack upon boarding the Artifact just a year or two before.

It's just one of those big important character things that stops mattering with a change in showrunner. It's not that I don't find the plot compelling (at least the teaser we've had so far), I just wish it felt more in sync with season one.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Jurati isn't actually in Starfleet, is she? She's on the Stargazer simply because Rios asked for her help, amirite?

Yep. I believe she would for legal purposes be considered a civilian consultant.

It bothered me at first, but someone pointed out that Picard is literally inhabiting a new brain this season. Since things like PTSD are believed to be in part caused by changes caused in the brain by traumatic experiences, it makes sense that in a new brain, he might be able to face things that previously triggered PTSD symptoms without being so triggered.

I think so? I think it may also be the ship on which Cadet Picard took his flight training classes. That might the the ship listed as where he passed his course on that certificate in the Starfleet Archive.

Yep.

While it is true that the Walker class (or at least the Shenzhou itself) was considered old even by DSC's time - well before Picard's birth - the class could always have been revived and more ships built later on.

The Excelsior in its original class configuration lasted at least 93 years or so so anything's possible.

He also had to face it point blank in Season 1 as well. Exposure therapy works for a reason.

Certainly. Even today we use designs that were once considered old because they were found to be reliable designs, or because people had a fondness for them. Maybe both. Hell, for all I know, gogo boots and beehive hairdos will make a comeback in the 2200s.

The B-52 bomber may end up serving at least an entire century before all is said and done and externally will look almost exactly the way she did when Dwight Eisenhower was President.

Looks like both looks are now canon. Guess she turns into the TOS ship by the time Kirk is offered and takes command.
Yup.

B-52 bombers went to space?

I get the point, but still, I find that in the era of changing uniforms and refits of starships that a ship keeping the same configuration as long as a B-52 a bit of stretch, at least from what has been presented on screen thus far.
