Laris is such a beautiful woman. I find her especially attractive in this shot.

Sweet Zombie Jesus, that woman is literally older than my dead mother but she looks like she's maybe just a decade older than me, if that.
I mean, there's nothing remotely weird about the idea that Earth puts more into Starfleet in terms of personnel and resources than other nations. It happens all the time in RL.
The idea that some member worlds might contribute more officers to Starfleet than others might be defensible, but the idea that it would be
uncommon for a world that constitutes 25% of the Federation's founding worlds to contribute officers to Starfleet is pretty weird.
It is really impressive how "Picard" manages to do things so much better than Disco.
I don't think it does -- I think the writing quality between the two is about the same, honestly. Which is to say, DIS is much better than it gets credit for being 'round these parts.
Is it the previously established universe from the TNG series that helps?
I think fans are reaction to two things: 1) the lighter, more optimistic tone; 2) the 'member berries.
I don't know, but the 10mins or so that we spend in the bridge of Stargazer, were enough for me to want to know more about its crew and definitely like the idea of a Stargazer spin off.
They barely had any personality beyond annoyance at the drunk lady.
I mean for 3 seasons (haven't watched the 4th) Disco treated its bridge crew mostly like an awkward part of the bridge decoration.
Between things like Detmer's PSTD and Owosekun's episode earlier this season, I really disagree.
Sir, the Ohio navy would like to have a word with you, but first I need help getting this dinghy off those cinder blocks.
How
dare you insult the honor of the
Ohio Naval Militia!
Just watched the Ready Room interview with Sir Patrick.
Is it just me, or is Will's gushing just a tad ott? (Not just this time around, but generally.)
*shrugs* He's not really that good of an actor, but he's found steady work as a Star Trek Hype Man. I'm fine with it if he's a little over the top.
Well, the show remains terrible.
Well, I respect your consistency.
Uh, yeah. It was never a mystery, there was never a hidden significance. It was literally its location in the ship. "Deck 10, forward."
I wouldn't consider it a mystery, either, but it's a fair question to wonder why they called it "Ten-Forward" instead of just "the mess hall." And the idea that Guinan just likes naming her bars some variation on "Ten-Forward" is a nice little detail to her character without being a big deal.
BTW, that Sovereign-class ship we saw as part of the fleet near the end of the episode...........was that the Enterprise-E perhaps, still in service after all of these years? And could one of the TNG crew members like Admiral Worf or Admiral Geordi be her captain by any chance?
I really don't think they would ever re-introduce the
Enterprise-E without drawing a lot of attention to it.
Guinan's scene here was directly related to Picard's earlier exchanges with Laris, and was clearly set-up for Picard's arc through the season, set-up which needed to take place before the primary plot-arc kicked in on Stargazer. So no, it was not unrelated to anything else, and no, it could not have been pushed back an episode. It was in exactly the right place.
Wait wait wait. You seem to be saying that
character arcs and
thematic content are as important as technical jargon and making sure the LCARS display uses the right font??
On this note, one of the things that is getting more and more impossible to ignore is the complete absence of Klingons in Season 3/4 of Discovery and Season 1 and probably all of 2 of Picard. I don't think I'm taking too much of a guess here to say that the avoidance is intentional.
The Discovery Klingon redesign sucks and everyone knows it.
Nah. I like it.
It was all part of Bryan Fuller's mad scheme to do a TNG Season 1-style visual reboot (which only worked under different circumstances, namely lack of Star Trek at the time)
TNG premiered one year after the release of
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
If the viewer has any grace
"If" is doing a
lot of work in that clause.
