The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

I wonder how many hours it took to put those together?

I really don't know but there is an insane amount of work in all of those figures and they have been there in that store literally for years. Most of the models have been glued in sections. They used to have a huge X Wing here inside a clear plastic done in one store but the only other big model still on display is a life sized Darth Vader in one store's toy department.

I just noticed in my photo Woody looks a bit suss there.

YT is such a fun rabbit hole. Toy design and history can sometimes be very strange, or simply unintentionally amusing.

What? No gazelle figurines?
Stay tuned for season 2, I think in the first or second episode. It is a classic moment. :techman:

Found it! And it was at the end of the first episode. Great speech Jon!

I thought Trip's hair was painted too dark so I gave him some blond highlights. He then showed the hairdresser how grateful he was.

Nice job on the paint!
Is that a Marvel Legends Black Cat?

That's cool. What kind of paint and how did you do it?

My Vintage Collection carded 4-pack from The Bad Batch has arrived.

The figures are from left to right: Clone Captain Rex, Clone Captain Ballast(Howzer in the actual series), Clone Captain Grey and an Elite Clone Trooper from the troopers commanded by Crosshair after he swears loyalty to the new Empire.

Now that you've seen that sequence, I'll just note that some members of this site reference it like a goofball meme or an "inside joke" as it seemed to come outa' nowhere. I assumed the "running gag" was better known than it actually is.

I've got Vintage Collection Fennec Shand, Boba Fett from BOBF, and Death Watch Mandalorian on pre-order. But the release date was supposed to be March 1!

Unrelated to Star Wars (despite my best efforts) but one of my daughters showed me a YT video about "mini cooking" where they used a set up like Astra's, but the stove actually works.

This is one example:

I've been going through some of my early to mid 2000s Star Wars figures. I find those horizontally swiveling elbows on many of them to be quite weird, as it meant the arms were perpetually bent. Who walks around like that all day? Given the option of only one direction of movement for the elbows, I would rather have hinge joints to be able to straighten the arms, instead of those sideways swivels.

Maybe at that point they hadn't quite managed to engineer durable ball joints small enough for the elbows, to be able to move the forearms both horizontally and vertically? They did start doing the ball-jointed elbows on some figures in 2005, though it tended to look a little clunky and it was on figures with baggy sleeves as there is more plastic to work with there. And over the next few years some figures still had the funky sideways swivel instead.

It's funny to look at the different figures from different eras. I love the current vintage line because it is highly versatile. Older figures vary but I definitely see the mix in the elbow joints, either due to molding limitations, or an effort to make the figures look more natural. Not sure, honestly. But the swivel joints are a weird one. I have an AT-ST driver like that. And the perpetual bent arms are awkward, especially the first run sandtrooper.

I would go so far as to say the Vintage Collection has become the gold standard for the 3.75 inch scale, or at least very, very close to it. I recently got the Vintage Collection Bo-Katan, and the figure is absolutely fantastic. Here are a few of my humble attempts at toy photography:

In the 90s it would have been inconceivable for a figure of this size to look this good and have this level of articulation and posability.

Indeed it is! From this set (I always buy them more for the sets than the figures. I have yet to actually use it for something!)

That's cool. What kind of paint and how did you do it?

I use these enamel paints, they are for painting plane and car models:

As for how I did it, I explained it step-by-step with the pictures?
Cutting off the turtleneck collar, cutting off the creases in the uniform, filling out the holes with Procreate to make a smooth shirt.
What I did not explain, the naked arms come from other figures, it's easy to switch them out when putting the figures into hot water for a few seconds.
Male arms come from the Talosian and female arms from Deanna Troi.

Now that you've seen that sequence, I'll just note that some members of this site reference it like a goofball meme or an "inside joke" as it seemed to come outa' nowhere. I assumed the "running gag" was better known than it actually is.
Thanks for explaining! To be honest, I don't venture much into other corners of this forum. I love that it is the old fashioned forum style but it's way to much to read everything every day.

I am bringing new pictures!
I watched the episode where they went to Risa and Jon talked about going to the beach with Porthos, but we never saw it. So I made these.

"This is the last time, okay? Oh, who am I kidding..." Porthos gets some cheese!

Then I got a comment that instead of waiting to be fed, he would go for the whole plate, so I had to add one more:

And then I watched "A Night in Sickbay"...

Sorry, I'm sometimes a bit thick. Simplified steps help my poor goldfish brain some days. How do you cut off the collar? Exacto or Dremmel?
