Warp speed/FTL. Last season it seemed like it took La Sirena some time to get from place to place. Here, it seems like the Stargazer made it to the anomaly in a matter of minutes. Where is warp technology now after Voyager made it home? How far has the Federation expanded?

Since the ship was fitted with "Borg parts", maybe that includes modifications to the warp drive to include accessing the transwarp conduit?

I thought Seven's use of the hologram to fight the bandits was singularly uninspired. Setting aside the fact that with holoemitters she should be able to essentially trap them any way she wants (make a brick wall around the intruders?), a hologram without safety protocols ought to be monstrously, spider-man level strong. He just gave the intruder a few love taps. He could have put his fist straight through their torso. A holo-fighter with no safety limits should be terrifying to go up against. There was no reason for Seven to risk being hurt.

Also, where did she beam them off to? One would assume it was back to their ship, but that seems like letting them go off to rob somebody else. Did she space them?! Seven seems a lot harder these days. Maybe she did.

Maybe she beamed them to a nearby inhabitable planet or into another cargo hold on La Sirena? There are lots of lockers and doors on the ship and some could hold humans or humanoids.

It was fine but I'm not getting the uber hype. This looks amazing, some iffy CG shots (PS2 graphics San Francisco is at odds with everything else) aside it was movie quality and had some fine nostalgia. My favourite moment was Q looking exactly like on TNG and then "catching up" to Picard.

Everyone being back in Starfleet rankles. Picard I can understand since the signal asked for him specifically. But Raffi was fucked over royally and left to rot in a trailer for over a decade. Rios left to rot following trauma because of Starfleet's screwy policies at the time. And all is forgiven? In their placed I'd never go back, they fucked them over once and they'll fuck them over again.

It's a decent start, but Discovery had a decent start this season too. We'll see where it goes.

This episode also says Spock was one of the first, but not THE first to join Starfleet. Good.

Him being the first was always a urban myth.

That would be T’Pol surely

Picard said Spock was "one of the first Vulcan cadets in Starfleet". T'Pol doesn't count in that regard since she never attended the Academy as far as we know, and even if she officially joined Starfleet, it was probably as a Commander.

Frontier justice. She spaced them.

They were intent on killing her and stealing her medical supplies. They were thugs. Maybe acting alone, maybe working for someone else. But it was the most efficient solution. None of her former crewmates would blame her.

Since it's been left up to each viewer's imagination to discern their fate, you can draw your own conclusions. I'll stick with mine. :)

I won't judge her for it. They were clearly dangerous and Seven clearly doesn't give a shit. ;)

He was in uniform before that.

All of that was orchestrated by Commodore Oh.

She vaporized Bjayzl in cold blood,
Cold blood? She was responsible for the death of someone she considered a son.
Revenge is never the answer, but I wouldn't call it cold blood.

Raffi was there by her own choice. Even if she'd been kicked out of Starfleet, she could have done something decent with her life. She chose to wallow in self-pity that whole time.

If you kill someone who isn't trying to kill you, for any reason (revenge included), that is cold blood.

Embarrassingly enough, I've seen the episode three times now, and it just gets a little better every time. Straight up forgot how exciting it was waiting week to week between episodes of the first season. Feel like I'm counting the hours at this point until Thursday swings back around again.

Man, I love this show.

Clearly, Bjayzl should have been left to walk around.

Reeited the Empath:
Kirk: The Klingon. One of us must get him.
Spock: Revenge, Captain?
Kirk: Why not?
Spock: Because it is killing in cold blood. We cannot kill him.

I think it is more likely that they have a specific purpose for this bridge/corridor set, though I could be wrong. They can do interesting things swapping out some panels, lights, etc. And I think the smart money is on an Academy show and not a Rios/Stargazer show (I haven't seen a lot of clamor for a Rios/Stargazer show, but maybe it will grow now).
I would 100% watch a Stargazer show with Rios and his crew exploring the galaxy and being intrepid.
