One thing I've been curious about - since the Academy stage has Klingon and Ferengi flags included among the banners, does this mean the Klingons and the Ferengi are actually Federation members at this point in time? We see a Bajoran one as well, so it's certainly plausible to imagine they're already members.

A great episode. Right up there with the best of Lower Decks. The finest of NuTrek! (Prodigy is good too.)

It's nice having good Trek back; I have been so bummed about this season of Discovery. Can't wait to see what happens next. Hopefully the quippy action bits from the 21st century are not as extensive as the trailers are portraying. I am enjoying the more contemplative Picard S2 so far.

...They'll use it in Season 3 as the Stargazer and they're going to do an early 25th century show once Picard wraps after Season 3. A continuation of the "24th century era" Star Trek, minus Patrick Stewart, who will be 84, and with less lean on Berman-era Trek actors, I'll lay money on it.

As the Borg ship came through the anomaly I could think of nothing else but the Narada exiting the black hole in Trek 2009. It was that cool and effective.

I immediately thought of the Bozeman coming through a different time rift.

I wonder if the "help us Picard" was entirely deceptive. Was there some truth to it? Or was it just the Borg changing tactics and using deception instead of brute force as Seven said? Maybe the Borg do need Picard's help in some way and since the Stargazer refused to negotiate and raised its shields, the Borg just sent the Queen to expedite things since they are determined to achieve whatever their goal is? The fact that the Borg queen only stunned the crew instead of killing them, might suggest "peaceful" motives.

Also, since these Borg came through a temporal anomaly, I think these Borg might be from an alternate timeline. It would explain the different ship design, different tactics, not using the classic "resistance is futile" line, and the Borg queen wearing that cloak. Perhaps, these Borg behave differently than "our" Borg because they come from an alternate timeline?

My theory: we've seen hints from the trailer that in the changed timeline, the Federation has become some totalitarian regime. What if these are Borg from the totalitarian Federation timeline who escape to our timeline needing our help to defeat the totalitarian Federation? It might explain why they asked Picard for help. They might assume Picard would be sympathetic to helping Borg escaping destruction from a totalitarian Federation.

I wonder if those Borg also traveled to Picard's past and assimilated his mother (in the flashback scene we see at about eleven and a half minutes into the episode his mother is being dragged outside), and that is who is in the black suit on the bridge of the Stargazer.

Interestingly, what this episode did subverts a different aspect of Kurtzman-era Trek. The Kelvin Timeline comic introduced Valas, the first Romulan Starfleet officer, born on Earth to exiled dissidents. She is Kirk's XO in the time gap of the Star Trek Beyond epilogue, in keeping with the film writers' insistence that the Kelvin Federation is well-acquainted with Romulans. I am surprised Picard season 2 puts such a limit on potential Romulans in Starfleet in future TOS-era stories.

This season of PIC begins exactly 250 years after the first episode of ENT, making the Starfleet universe to date(minus Seasons 3 and 4 of DSC) a story spanning a quarter of a millennium.

OMG!!! That was so FRAKING amazing! To all those who didn't want this to be TNG 2.0... Stick it!

The battle with the nuBorg seriously evoked the opening scene of ST'09. Did anyone else hear "Nailin' the Kelvin" in their heads when the ship came out of the anomaly? The last scene with Q picked up exactly where they left off ~30 years ago without missing a beat. I'm so giddy they explained the aging, too. I am SOOOO looking forward to this season.

A few other observations:

• A cadet was assigned to the USS Hikaru Sulu
• I want to see Raffi's Excelsior! Will it be NCC-2000-A, or NCC-82000?
• MOAR!!!!

Beats me. I don't watch Discovery because I didn't like it, nor do I make a point of posting the reasons why I don't like it. Seemed like the logical thing to do.

Top notch premiere. Although I do hope they don’t go over the top with the action to make up for the…slowness of S1.

Loved seeing young Q become old Q. And the Guinan scene was fantastic.

my money is still on Jurati being the new-Queen.

love Rios with the cigar on the bridge. But everything still seems so dark.
