I still want more. Troi was a terrible example of a therapist. At least DSC makes sense.Nothing against therapy either, it just is out of place on a big budget sci-fi TV show.
And she probably doesn't smoke.Jeri's only 54 - a bit too young still to get any hint of "old woman voice."

Sorry. After years of my chosen profession being treated poorly on one of my favorite franchises I'll take Discovery's way.
The copy and paste nature of the fleet was because they didn’t have time. The FX was only finished a week before airing. According to the Eaglemoss booklet for the inquiry, the fleet was a last minute decision, John Eaves said he only had a couple days to whip up a few designs. Luckily he already had a design from a cut plot line from earlier in the season. They didn’t intentionally set out to make it a copy a paste fleet, they just had no other option.
Speaking of the inquiry, there are 3 or 4 in the fleet in this episode.
What would you think of the Borg queen was Beverly? That would also explain alt-Picards rampage against the Borg, and would tie in nicely with the relationship motif they have going.
You know it's funny, but this season of DSC seems like it was written by the faculty of a psychotherapy department at a university or something. The "therapy speak" permeates a lot of the character interactions and breaks the immersion for me. I like DSC! But this season seems like it's actually what some people hyperbolically say TNG was. The thing about TNG is that through Troi there was a literal therapist on the ship/crew which provided an organic reason for the occasional (and not nearly as often as some detractors say) foray into psychological language and framing. In DSC, they had to jam the MD into a psychologist/psychiatrist role and every other character sounds like a therapist too, even the cool dark shady intelligence guy from last season. I am not enjoying it as much. Nothing against therapy either, it just is out of place on a big budget sci-fi TV show.
The season premiere of PIC had a lot of emotional introspection and whatever but it was done in a much more organic way that was true to what we know about the characters. They seem to be adding a "tragic backstory" to JLP's past: unless I'm misinterpreting they seem to have suggested that his father was abusive to his mother? This would be a new spin on the character I think. I am interested to see where it will go. I will say that what I appreciated about this episode was that JLP sounded and acted like JLP for the most part and the Federation/Starfleet seemed a bit more like what you'd expect (less "shut the fuck up.").
That's the difference, and IMHO that's what Discovery is missing. Everyone is just so ready to discuss their emotional vulnerability at the drop of a hat. No one is fucked up in a repressed manner. Functionally speaking, they're all identical - probably writer avatars.
Haha, oh man, they would have to work very hard to make this cool and not groan-inducing.
Not only that but they are willing do it when there is literally a ticking clock that if allowed to expire will cost countless lives!
I mean if it’s that or his mother, I’d much rather have Crusher. Having it be his mother would just be too cliche, especially since thats what they did for Disco S2
Obviously, at the end, Q appeared and I felt the hairs tremble on my spine.![]()
Tons of ways to deal with that, not least of which being last season ended up with Oh flying back into Romulan space, where she'll inevitably be punished for her destruction of the Romulan rescue fleet 15 years ago by the Romulan Free State. As Zhaban was former Tal Shi'ar, he would've been welcomed back by the Romulans and vindicated for throwing his lot in with Picard, etc. and could be said to be busy dealing with Romulan political stuff.Zhaban actor has been quite busy. Don’t think he was available.
The rock waltz music and energy in the grape harvest scene was great!
But the new theme music is a mess![]()
