Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Last edited:
Whatever the heck this is supposed to be, I've merged it into the General Discussion Thread.

At least that one mentions Picard once, I'm guessing so as not to get deleted. The other thread KennyB closed was easily as confused with no mention of anything Star Trek.

Why exactly is Picard season premiering on the same day as Discovery's next episode? Shouldn't they be on separate days? And they literally launch before my 1 in-office day per week arrangement since covid, so I have to make a choice on what to watch because watching both before going to bed would probably be a bit much since I have to get up early for work the next day.

Yeah, streaming Paramount Star Trek day is always Thursday.

It’s only for these first 3 weeks, with Picard S02 and the last Discovery episodes of S04, and then 1 week for the finale of Picard S02 and the premiere of Strange New Worlds. It’s not often anyone will have to decide between which series to watch first.

Because Thursday is their normal airing day.
I just think it's strange given the intensity of the streaming wars where they're counting viewers etc. that they'd put themselves in a position where they're competing with literally themselves and thus throwing off those numbers. Admittedly that already happened to a smaller extent with Prodigy I think.

Die hards will watch both. I’m not sure that Paramount cares exactly WHEN they watch them as long as they watch them both.

This exactly! They’re not really competing with themselves, because streaming shows aren’t viewed as airing in a specific time slot. The companies aren’t looking at the views/downloads that way.

The streamers themselves are looking at a week+’s worth of views at a time, and looking at percentages of episodes watched, and number of episodes completed, but Paramount doesn’t care which of their shows we watch first, as long as they’re both watched.

Paramount+, Disney+, Netflix, none of them care whether or not we watch their show the moment they drop, or around 18 hours later. The later time is when most viewings occur, after people are home from work/school/etc.

There may be some fans avoiding Discovery who will enjoy watching Picard when it returns - and I think most fans will watch both.

I think it is slightly unfair on Discovery being overshadowed by Picard coverage and promotion, when they are building up to their season finale!

Discovery has had quite a run of flat episodes this season, if there's a lack of hype for their finale it's their own fault. Sadly.

(minor spoilers for already aired episodes of this season of Discovery)
It's basically a season long remake of the Doomsday Machine. TOS got it one and done in 1 hour.
