What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Movie-Uniforms-in-TOS-Department-Colors.jpg

I think they look gorgeous!

I still think DISCO uniforms in the 32nd century having the black stripe only on the front, on one side is weird.

I think it would look WAY better if the stripes were on both sides of the chest and on Front & Back.

Symmetry would look great IMO & get rid of the neck badge.

Having the pips on the Shoulder Epaulettes is good enough IMO.

the way Disco uniforms get routinely disliked I would think it is more controversial to like them, as is.
Which I do actually. Wasn't fond of the greys. They just looked,, well grey. I don't mean Grey Tal. Grey Tal never looks grey.

wait.. not you. You're grey, and a Tal but not Grey Tal. I am confusing myself.

What was the logical point of having the small open jacket flaps above the main uniforms?

It didn't look good IMO, it looked kinda goofy.

On women, that kinda fashion could look good depending on the body type.

On men, it looks kinda goofy.

I just don't see the point of TVH...a bunch of people in funny clothes running around 1980s San Francisco "Nuclear Wessels!" hurhurhur
But I'm not a fan of time travel stories in general, so...

I’ve been much of a fan of that movie either, and I do like time travel stories if they’re well-written. Glad I’m not alone! ;)

The movie doesn't particularly appeal to me, either.

But I guess it's fun to see Our Heroes in a 'contemporary' (well, back when the movie was made) setting, and all misunderstandings that follow as a result.

It is fun, ditto "Future's End" (Neelix and Kes getting hooked on soap operas and B'Elanna getting kidnapped by crazies was gold), but I wonder as our crews become more contemporary and "street smart" if the formula will work as well going forward. I guess Picard S2 will show.

"True fan"

"It's a good movie, but not a good Star Trek movie"

Both utterly meaningless statements.
With respect I’ll disagree on your second point.
I’ll illustrate using Marvel films rather than Star Trek, just as Star Trek uses allegory!

Infinity War and Endgame are fantastic (IMO) and emotional movies if you have seen most/all the marvel films leading up to them. I don’t often cry at films but Iron Man at the end brought tears.

If you haven’t seen any/many Marvel films you won’t know who many people are, what they are doing, what their relationships are etc. I know this first hand from trying to watch it with someone who’d only seen a couple of Marvel films.

They are great Marvel movies, but they are not great movies in their own right. They can’t stand up without 20 movies behind them.

I think the reason ST IV was such a huge hit was that because of its broader appeal, you didn't have to be a Trekkie to enjoy it. Though it helps.

But again, I don't see the appeal. It's funny dressed people running around 1980s San Francisco.
Of all the Star Trek films, I would have thought you'd have to be a Trek fan to enjoy it, since otherwise you don't know who the characters are.

"True fan" reminds me of the term "True Scotsman", suggesting that a Scotsman is only a "true" Scotsman if he goes buck under his kilt.

I think that a great many Scotsmen would disagree.

I'd like to ask someone who brandishes the term "True Fan" as a weapon to define what a "Fake Fan" is.

My guess is you'll get a lot of incoherent over-emotional rumblings about Gene's Vision, enlightened humanity, utopia, ect...as well as a lot of anger and exclamation points directed at Alex Kurtzman and JJ Abrams.

Predictable things are predictable.
