Sorry, it's shipping shorthand. J/C is short for "a romance between Janeway and Chakotay". I liked the actors' chemistry, but "Lessons" was a good explanation for why it's good that it wasn't pursued.

I have to say that to me shipping is something which is primarily done with packages in the mail, Fedex, UPS, etc. So just how was "shipping" started as slang for imagining romance between ficitonal characters?.

From my personal experiences, around 25 years or so ago fan discussion and fiction communities of popular shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer began to popularize the term online, shortened from “relationshipping,” referring to the relationships imagined by fans between any two characters from any given show/series.

There may be more to it than that, but that’s what I’ve gathered, and over the years that it’s seemed to become a more mainstream term.

And to get it back on topic, ‪‪I watched Discovery S04E10 The Galactic Barrier last night as soon as ‪‪I was able.

Exactly. I didn't come up with the term. The one that perplexes me is "Slash", used exclusively for same-sex pairings.

Whodunit Double Feature: "A Matter of Perspective" (TNG) + "Ex Post Facto" (VOY)
Plus: "Sub Rosa" (TNG)
