Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

So I watched the commentary for Remembrance and there was zero conversation about an earlier version of a Romulan attack on Mars. Just a bunch of stuff about different camera lenses they used to facilitate different looks during the course of the interview and Picard’s descent into meltdown over the whole evacuation fiasco. Kind-of disappointing in that regard, but if that particular version of the story didn’t make sense in the grand scheme of the established plot, it would make sense not to draw too much attention to it. No deleted scenes or alternate versions either. So…

I fuckin' called it!!!!

I love how there's no suffix letter after the number, they added an "8" to the front of the original registry number.

That’s a way better idea than the suffix thing. Perhaps the next Enterprise will not be the ‘F’ but rather the NCC-81701.

Well, the Defiant in DS9 didn't have the TOS Defiant's registry, she had her own wholly original five-digit registry number unrelated to the 23rd century starship. It's not the first time, though it would have been amusing had the Defiant's registry been NX-71764.

To be fair, Voyager's only up to J by the 32nd century, so if they go through Voyagers at the same rate they go through Enterprises, it might take another 300-400 years after Picard before the registry suffix stops being unique to Enterprises.
