Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

As mentioned in another thread, riding horseback (at any level above a walk on a guided ride on a level trail, or those kids' pony rides where the horse is kept going in a small circle) is hard work for the rider, demanding skill and physicality, as well as being able to guide the horse properly on the rider's desired path. It's a misconception that the rider "doesn't do anything."

But anyway, my random thought for today... I was waiting at a red light in a left turn lane. The guy behind me swung around to the right lane, and made a left-hand turn into the intersection from there. While the light was still red. So when it turned green, I made my turn. And I saw the same guy a little ways ahead running another red light. :wtf:

My liver CT scan is at 8am tomorrow AZ time. Good thoughts, prayers, whatever for an easy time and a non-horrible result appreciated.

Good luck tomorrow, I hope all goes well, and no problems!

Ready Player Zero. The prequel where everyone's avatars are chess pieces, Monopoly guys, The District Messenger Boy, playing cards, checkers circles, hey even the snakes from snakes and ladders.

What other sports do physical strength not give you a tremendous advantage? The ones I can think of haven't really had female players get into the top 20 yet.

I have to talk to the judge tomorrow. Apparently I said something while in a severely manic state and a charge was filed. Was told the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of "talk to judge get released continue treatment deal with charge later" because I have a spotless record.

Still nervous AF though.

Good luck.
that whole 'sport' comes from training cavalry horses to jump enemy defences to more easily sabre down the dudes manning them.
That's interesting, I did not know that.
Stallions. Stags are male deer.
And geldings.

I'm coming up blank too.

First Valentine's Day as a widow. This is painful, but my kids have been really wonderful so it isn't as awful as it could be.
*HUGS*

It really sucks not having anyone to use as references for jobs. I'm still looking for a new job, and pretty much any job I find that's nicer than a Wal-Mart, Target, or store like that, they want references and I don't have any. I didn't think to ask anyone at either of my old jobs, and I feel kind of weird going back and asking the people I used to work with if I can put them down as references.

I don't know any of their full names or phone numbers though.
Here's a little secret: anyplace you worked that's big enough to have an HR department? That's who your "reference" is. Call the store or search the web and find an HR contact name and phone number. All the prospective employer wants is to verify you actually worked where you said you did. Previous managers? Just give what you have. Also, companies are *terrified* of getting sued, so they usually only give "yes, he worked here" and the dates. DON'T FEEL WEIRD about asking previous co-workers or bosses - this is how the system works.

If they ask for personal references, they just want to know you have people who know you and don't think you're an axe murderer. If you want, message me and I'll give you my name and number.

I didn't know you lived in Phoenix!

Golf? Biathlon?

Thanks for the Care Bears, @Avro Arrow! The hospital techs were terrific and I had a much easier time than I have at other places. My insurance still showed as a denial of the pre-auth because they still had the original order from 2/1 and not the corrected order from 2/18. The hospital was kind enough to give me a copy. I was just about to call the insurance to bawl them out when I saw that the newer order is now listed as approved. Hopefully that means I'll get my $400 back!

Now I get to worry for a day or two about the results...:ack:

Good luck.
for biathlon ask the norwegian army - of course the 'played' it with mausers.

next to every 'sport' that's not a team sport has a military background - have a look at track and field

Certain categories of shooting sport, such as 10m air rifle, which is an official Olympic event. Precise motor control is more important than dynamic strength. The stiff clothing worn by competitive rifle shooters also reduces the required amount of isometric strength. Originally the shooting sport events were mixed, but in the 1980s were separated into women's and men's categories. And 10m air rifle in particular wasn't actually in the Olympics until 1984, so it was segregated from the start.

It's a little scary how many every day things link back to the military.

I'm old enough to remember when businesses called their Human Resources departments "Personnel." Why the change? To me, "Human Resources" sounds like they're stockpiling an inventory of body parts.
