BREAKING: Paramount Sets Top Secret Star Trek Movie For Summer 2023; To Be Produced By J.J. Abrams

Can't say I'm not disappointed - if they're insisting on making movies I'd hoped we'd seen the last of the JJverse and get something fresh in the main continuity. I don't want Abrams anywhere near Trek, or anything else I like for that matter.

Oh well, happy for you folks that like it. I'm good with Disco, Picard and SNW.

If that's true, and it's going forward, that means they are already knee deep in designing the 1701-A interior sets. Corridors, bridge, transporter room, etc.

And then they still have to BUILD all the sets. They can do it in 10 months, but they gotta get on the ball if they are going to film before the end of year.
I'm sensing a Star Trek V-like recycling of existing interior sets coming.
Well, this is gonna bomb. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. I wonder what kind of audience research they did? I hope it's not the same guys as they used in 2014/2015... We all know how Beyond ended.
Even if it bombs, it's one more Kelvinverse movie than we'd have had otherwise.

At least if the movie's a disaster now, Star Trek won't be sitting in the wilderness for goodness-knows-how-long.

Yeah, I won’t be holding my breath either. This seems like yet another announcement at an investor event - pretty crazy to announce the film when you don’t have the cast signed up yet. Presumably Pine, Quinto and Saldana’s agents will be loving this news - they’ll be able to hold Paramount to ransom on contracts.

I liked the cast and would be happy to see a new film with them. It just sounds like it’s going to be very costly to sign up the cast for another sequel to a film that pretty much bombed in 2016. Even if they cut corners by using the Discovery or SNW sets where possible, is it going to make financial sense?

Paramount is in a big hole already with MI 7 and 8, and they’ve still not released that Top Gun sequel. They can’t afford a Matrix Resurrections type of bomb so they seem to be waiting for cinema audiences to pick up again. They may never recover to previous heights.

Well, this was unexpected, but pleasant, surprise. Abrams involvement no longer holds much interest to me, but I am still fond of this cast and hope all of them return.

I know the odds are probably pretty low, but I would love it if Sofia Boutella's Jaylah character was now a fully fledged member of the crew, since she's had time to attend the Academy and all. She would make a good replacement for Chekov.

She's had time to graduate the academy and maybe even be LTjg by now. She would be a great addition to any new movie they did.

I think they're taking the Mission: Impossible approach with these films, which are also put out by Paramount. They'll come out infrequently with the same cast for decades, until they can't anymore.

Mission: Impossible
1st Film - Released in 1996.
2nd Film - Released in 2000.
3rd Film - Released in 2006.
4th Film - Released in 2011.
5th Film - Released in 2015.
6th Film - Released in 2018.
7th Film - To be released in 2023.
8th Film - To be released in 2024.

Sound familiar?

That's why they won't give up after however many hurdles they face. They're playing the Long Game.
