I didn't realize there weren't enough open to make it viable for them.

That surprised me too, given the theatres where I live in Nova Scotia stayed open all throughout the recent Omicron wave. Something I was reading online was saying the theatres in Quebec just reopened this week and are annoyed they won't have Moonfall to screen, given part of the movie was filmed in Quebec.

^ I'd think they would be allowed to run the movie with a delayed showing given the circumstances and at least then the studios would be able to still make more money. I mean, we live in times where certain things are out of our control.

The studio apparently is refusing to allow a theatrical release in Canada at all. I suspect there's more to it than just because not enough theatres are opened, that certainly hasn't stopped any other movie released so far this year. Though that does appear to be the official story at the moment.

That does seem weird. Even if all the theaters aren't open, as long as some are you'd think they'd want to release it, just to at least get some money from you guys up north.

Ok, that said, I wonder if other studios are following the lead. Not that it matters all that much, given that as a country, we've been pretty strict on the mandates and theatres have been mostly closed since the start of the pandemic aside from a few short periods that probably don't make it worth it to screen movies. I think maybe that's where the studio is coming from. They're probably waiting for assurances of stability before they commit.

Everything has pretty much gotten pretty close to normal here. As far as I've seen everything is back open at least close to their normal hours, and I think most people are back to work and school now.

This is not true. Health policies in Canada are determined provincially, not Federally. And even within provinces, policies can change by region.

Where I live in Northern British Columbia, theatres have not been closed in a long time.

That said, I can't find Moonfall on my local cinema listings.

I didn't say they were determined federally. I did say that as a whole, Canada's been fairly tight on the mandates, so I didn't say anything that wasn't true. Our adherence has been fairly good as a Country, that's what I'm saying. As far as theatres go, yeah, that might be a different story. I don't think ours in Ontario have been open for months.

Oof, in the United States moonfall is facing a 70 percent drop from an already disappointing opening weekend. This squashes any hope of a sequel.

It looks like the mid budget pre vaccine movie Greenland will end up making more money than the full budget moonfall.

I was just pointing out that theatres, cinema, and other venues have been open in other parts of the country. Sometimes people in southern Ontario get this view of Canada and it is up to us "regional" people to keep Ontarians in check you know.

Yeah, I realize that. But the discussion was also about movie studios, and in this case, they probably look at Canada as a whole to figure out if a movie is worth screening in our Country

Oh and I'm not from Southern Ontario. I do get what you mean though as often the same feeling is shared here about people from Southern Ontario They often feel like they're the center of the world.
