What are the odds Kurtzman break his rule of 4 trek series at a time and decide to add more shows?

Both Prodigy and Lower Decks can last for decades and aren’t going to be canceled anytime soon and Kurtzman has many ideas about a Starfleet academy Show and Section 31 and Picard might go on for more then 3 seasons so IMO there are high odds of there being a 5th Star Trek show on Paramount depending on the success of Strange New Worlds. IMO This Scenario would be awesome!

Considering there's already 5 running concurrently: Descovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy and Strange New Worlds, the rule has already been broken. I doubt many new series will be announced until old ones conclude. They can already get more than 50 episodes per year, which would give about 1 episode a week. That's good enough if you ask me.

As long as all the Trek series are on the same streaming service and aiming for a similar audience there doesn't seem to be a need for more than 52 episodes a year. Though that doesn't mean they can't have 7 series with 7 episodes each, or 10 series with 5 episodes, or whatever they want to do.

Yeah, I always thought if the Section 31 show came to fruition that it would be a shorter 6 episode season or something like that. No reason they have to stick to 10 for everything.

Depends on money.

Was there some kind of rule about only four shows at a time? Not sure what that has to do with Kurtzman. If CBS wanted ten Trek shows at a time, that’s what’s they’d do, and they’d get ten different show runners to deal with it.

Nothing is leaving for Strange New Worlds at this moment, there are five Star Trek series that will air in 2022, and all of them are getting at least another season after that.

Now, there are 5 series currently, and no one has ever said there would/could only be 4 series. That’s never been a rule, or an idea, presented by Kurtzman.

He did say that the next show in development to move to series would probably wait until one of the current series has ended, I would think because he’s okay with 50-60 weeks ‪‪of Trek a year/production cycle, as that keeps Star Trek on all year round, and an additional series, even with a decreased episode order, require a lot more resources to pay all the members of creative and production, and actors and fabricate new sets, props, and costume assets.

Are they beholden to a four series rule? No, that’s never been a thing. Are they sticking to just five series for now? Yup, but they’re under no obligation to continue with only five for any length of time, and could easily revise their plan.

PIC is only for 3 seasons, if I recall correctly (and they are filming S3 now)...so that will wrap up relatively quickly.

I don't know if we need "more" Star Trek right now. I think I'd prefer them to wrap-up DSC and then shift to a new "tentpole" series, whatever that will be, when that time comes. I'd rather they are able to focus their attention and time on doing whatever they are going to do well.

Kurtzman has both a budget, and a set amount of Studio space. He hasn't arbitrarily decided how many series they can produce at one time; that number is determined by the resources he has available to him. It's not an arbitrary number.

This. CBS wanted 5 shows and they've got 5 shows. If CBS ask for more, we'll get more but the plan was for an episode a week for 52 weeks to keep Paramount+ subs all year around, and that's what they're on course for.

Patrick Stewart said recently in an interview (like within the last week) that there is only gong to be Three Seasons of Picard.

I am in awe of your confidence that this current Trek cycle will last decades.

I'd be totally okay with a second standard Star Trek starship show running in the same time period as Strange New Worlds, but it doesn't seem like something they'd do.
