The phaser and TOS-E models look really... off. The old Diamond Select line of ships and props were objectively superior.
They are toys, not collectibles.
The two categories have never been mutually exclusive.
Well my expectations are lowered for toys, unless it has collectible sized prices.

I've not been a fan of Eagle Moss' semi-die cast models.
There's too many issues with their QC and general design IMO.
Eagle Moss does do a decent job with the books / pamphlets / mini magazines though.

Those two totally remind to the 90s Playmates versions, which I suppose isn’t a bad thing.
Kind of an odd mix of stuff, I assume since the Enterprise and phasers are from the original show that there will be figures that match them, as well as starships and role play toys for the movie, TNG and Discovery figures shown.
Yes, but they would not survive ten minutes of actual play. My DS Phaser is on a shelf to look at, but when I go running around with the kids on Halloween, it's the Playmates phaser I take. I collect the old PM dolls, and one of the appeals for me is the durability. I can still find PM dolls in tag sale bins in fairly good condition.
I think they are in the unenviable position of trying to play the collector and toy markets at the same time. I think that's what's going on in not premiering Prodigy toys first, which I found disappointing. Parents are *making* Prodigy toys, the demand is there. In theory.
Indeed. All my Playmates phasers and tricorders still function after twenty some odd years of moving, storage and what not. They are designed to be played with not displayed as collector's items. Playmates would do well to steer in the direction of play not display.
Not to mention battery life. I have a old unopened Playmates ENT B with lights and sounds (Try Me button access) that still works loud and clear.
It's not so much the way the phaser looks but more about the position of the trigger. I just can't imagine reaching that far!
It's a pity that endurance quality wasn't part of their Trek09 lot. My communicator has stopped working entirely and the tricorder doors don't pop open anymore. And don't get me started on the phaser.

There's the little matter of supply chain issues nowadays when you're shipping stuff from China (I had a h*ll of a time trying to a get a Funko for Christmas
