Prodigy Toys Coming Soon!

Walmart got burned pretty badly on the 2009 merchandise. It sat on shelves for months until they finally marked it all down and pushed it out the door. So it'll be interesting to see if and how much space they give to a new Star Trek line.

I trust Nickelodeon knows what it's doing.

If they can move Paw Patrol and PJ Masks, they can move Prodigy.

They are able to split it differently this time, with the collectibles in Video games and on the toy shelves.
Yep. I've seen Mego Picard and Saru figures at a local Walmart recently. The collectible section varies from store to store, but most carry stuff that you wouldn't think would sell big.

The biggest thing I have seen with the toy market is a larger landscape change. One, you have a much bigger online presence to spread product out, including customer ability to purchase there. So, stores don't have to spend shelf space on product that they don't necessarily want to sit. Two, they can keep a things moving a lot more freely since online orders can pull from local stores and get them moved. Finally, retailers are getting a lot more freedom to markdown within a specific time frame, rather than waiting and waiting. The flexibility in the market place actually helps them because they will not plan on sitting on stock for months to come.

This is great news and a huge DUH!

Shameful it wont be until 2023. Seriously - somebody should be fired. WHO IS MANAGING THIS FRANCHISE?

It isn't the end of the world, but seems like a miss, in general.

I think it's safe to assume that Prodigy is going to be around for a while.

There's the matter of supply chain issues (OT: I FINALLY got my Gatchaman Funko after FIVE MONTHS in transit! )

Mark and Princess, FINALLY together :adore: :luvlove: :

I remember that from the American version, "Battle of the Planets".
(took me a bit to connect the two)

Never saw the Japanese version.

IIRC, the Seven-Zark-Seven interludes between scenes were unique to the American BOTP version, making it more “kid friendly”, and basically a rip on R2-D2 (which was basically a rip on Space Battleship Yamato’s IQ-9/Analyzer). Never appeared in the original Gotchamen.

It was marketed in the US as "Battle of the Planets" (they had Jun and Ken Washio on their respective packages).

Just to keep things interesting, Ted Turner bought the broadcast rights and re-branded it AGAIN as "G-Force." ;)

Those 2009 dolls were wretched, IMO. I hope they opt for something with cleaner design like the 90s figures. My sense was they couldn't quite decide who they were marketing to in 2009 and ended up with no one being interested.

I do a lot of rummage sale digging for the dolls, and the 2009 dolls did not take wear well, with their sticky rubber uniforms. Whereas well-loved 90s dolls are often amazingly intact.

Which ones? I have the smaller ones and they aged fine.

Oh, I've never seen the little ones, so I'll have to walk that back a bit. I was talking about the 6" ones, which have these rubber-like uniforms that, unless you are getting them straight out of the package, are nastier than an old lint brush.

Ah. Yeah, I generally don't do 6 inch.
