What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Does Scotty ever wear this outfit in the film?

I had completely forgotten about that (Scotty’s) uniform. It looks a bit too … contemporary. I can picture myself wearing it to work

Understandable since it didn't actually appear in the movie. Sulu did wear a beige version in the rec deck scene though.

The way Scotty's jacket fastens with a Starfleet delta is a lot like how Kirk's green leisure tunic in TOS had an abdominal strap with a Starfleet delta.

The badge was fairly mobile in STTMP: Besides the fastening for the "leisure jacket," it was also on the sleeve cuff for security guards wearing body armor.

I don't have a huge preference for either the MM's or the TMP uniforms. I actually like the TMP era stuff because it has so many variants.

Honestly, I think I prefer the field uniforms from TFF the best out of all the Starfleet movie costumes

Getting rid of Pockets in clothing is a bad idea IMO.

Especially Uniforms.

Also lack of Pens / Pencils & Paper (Mini NotePad) in the future is unrealistic, especially given that StarFleet would have Pen/Paper/Pencil on hand incase technology fails for whatever reason. That's why you store those in those pockets in your uniforms.

The ENT uniforms and then TOS are easily the most practical in a workplace setting followed by the DS9 and VOY jumpsuit uniforms. Jumpsuits with zippers and pockets. Simple pullover shirts and trousers. One-piece jumpsuits without belts.

Is it controversial to say I prefer the TMP uniforms to the monster maroons?

It's definitely a minority opinion but I wouldn't say it's controversial. I happen to agree, Fletcher's STTMP uniforms were conceptually the strongest in all of Trek.

Of course 18th c. naval unis (Hornblower era) look pretty stiff.

The dress uniforms, yes, but what they actually wore at sea was more functional and informal. The Bounty (1984) and Master and Commander (2003) were pretty accurate on that.

My biggest beef with the monster maroons isn't the design (which I am not crazy about, either) but the radical, never-seen-before-or-since decision to put enlisted personnel in a totally different uniform style.

TMP had all that plus the practicality of short sleeves. Of course, the jumpsuit was skin-tight spandex...

You do realize the enlisted personnel were put in TMP jumpsuits that had been re-dyed to match the color scheme of the monster maroons, I trust? They weren't that different, at least in that they had been seen before.

I do realize it. Of course in TMP they had been worn by all ranks.

Controversial Opinion: Since they're making so many Star Trek series, I think they should have a Riker Series. Note that I don't necessarily mean a Titan Series. You could have a cooking show: Making Pizza With Riker. You could have a rom-com: The Trois. The possibilities for unconventional Star Trek series are endless and he could pull those off.
I want to see a series starring Kestra Riker where she and her wacky neighbor Rupert Crandall go on Rick and Morty style adventures aboard Crandall's ship, The Inside Straight.
