That’s the palette cleanser I needed after watching The Eternals. This may be as pure Gunn as it gets, sort of a white trash Wes Anderson, as these visuals are about as meticulously tailored as can be to so perfectly capture a certain aesthetic rarely seen on TV.

I wasn't sure hearing about this after The Suicide Squad but these characters feel like they've been played for years. Cena really nails this character and embodies it. Robert Patrick as his white supremacist father seems scarily well cast. There's an undercurrent of mental health issues and dysfunction that is more affecting than some other well-meaning shows that hang a hat on it.

Not too much to talk about in actual plotwise yet, the team is trying to stop "butterflies" which are inhabiting people and inhabiting them in some weird body snatcher stuff but we only get to the meat of it in the last of the three initial episodes. We (and Peacemaker) are in the dark and learning what's really going on as the series moves on. I guess it's mostly setup with one brutal fight with what turns out to be more than a one night stand as a set piece and an extended escape sequence. The rest is the details and character moments along the way that make it sing.

I guess it depends on your tolerance for trash and snark but I think this really works as a character piece and fun ride. Be ready for graphic violence, language and nudity.
 
I wasn't a fan of 'The Suicide Squad' but this series is hellishly fun.
It reminds me a lot of 'The Boys' with DC lore added in. Pretty crazy and very funny. I'd highly recommend it.

I watched the first episode (starting ep 2 now). The show totally embraces what it is: irreverent, silly, crude, totally R, smart and witty. It is pure James Gunn. It is great so far.
 
This is what the DCEU has become. :)
It was okay but this isn’t what I want for this universe. At least it’s just a tv show and not a movie
 
I suppose DC and Sony bring in some of the trashy side ignored by the more anodyne and clean MCU and DC/CW. Titans, Venom, Peacemaker, to some extent Doom Patrol and Suicide Squad, mixes it up a bit. While I do appreciate how the MCU has managed to keep such a big machine moving along it's nice to have a bit of gristle to shake it up occasionally. And good on Cena going all in, I can't imagine the Rock being quite so game.

I didn't even really think of this as being "DCEU". Does that mean Bat-mite might be coming?
 
This sure as hell ain't a Greg berlanti DC Universe show, that's for sure.

I loved the irreverent, comedy and the absolute non political correctness here. It's just and enjoyable guilty pleasure of sorts. One thing it isn't so far is patently predictable and that's great.

Liked the first three episodes. Hopefully the rest of the series will be as good. My biggest quibble is that I don't see why they need Peacemaker. Harcourt, and perhaps Murn, seem just as capable as Peacemaker. If Peacemaker was a metahuman, had some healing factor I could get it.
 
An overall great show so far. I loved The Suicide Squad, and this is a great spinoff. I have a few minor issues (I could have lived without the damn nudity, especially the fucking picture on the tablet), but the story and characters are very entertaining, and I'm excited to see more.

True. But the show needs a recognizable "superhero" as the titular lead character. Otherwise, it is just a normal show, loosely set in the DCEU, of a team of regular agents doing missions. They could just make another "FBI" show with a few DCEU references. Having Peacemaker gives the show more flair. But I will say that Peacemaker does come across as super dumb and even a liability. He leaves the dossier out for the butterfly woman to find and he gets cold feet when ordered to kill the butterfly family.

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time, for that alone the show is getting a thumbs up from me.

Besides that Cena is just so awesome - i have stopped watching Wrestling way before he, Rock and others came up so their movies were my first exposure to them aside from memes but everytime i saw Cena anywhere he was hilariously funny. Reynolds found his dream role with Deadpool and Peacemakler is Cena's vehicle that fits like it was tailored.

I love how he doesn't take himself too serious unlike Dwayne Johnson ( which i do like but he can come off a bit too stiff sometimes) and it's perfect for the role. Definitely looking forward to each episode.

It's funny you described a Peacemaker-less series like that because it reminded me of Agents of Shield, and how that lack of flair was a demerit at first. While looking at the first three episodes of Peacemaker I got an Agents of Shield vibe in of a different sort though because I thought Peacemaker and Harcourt were redundant, much like I felt May and Ward were for most of Shield's first season.

I do like the Harcourt character, and the actress, but I think if it was just Peacemaker, Leota, and Economos, without Harcourt and perhaps Murn further in the background it might make more sense for them to need Peacemaker for this job. I guess they could just go with the easier explanation that Waller doesn't know who to trust so that's why she's brought Peacemaker back. He had been out of commission so long that it was doubtful he had been possessed. Waller's suspicions could also be the reason why she has Leota involved as well.
 
I thought Harcourt and Economos being stuck with Peacemaker along with their shitty digs was Waller's payback for their actions in The Suicide Squad. Operation Butterfly looks pretty extensive so Peacemaker might just be one cog in the wheel. I guess we'll see what happens now that Smith and the audience know more of what's happening.
