Spoilers Peacemaker - Discussion

That was pretty graphic. I hope nothing bad happens to Adebayo. The show continues to have a killer soundtrack. You don’t hear a lot of 80’s glam metal on tv these days.

I don't think the show will go that far, Gunn is not Tarantino who would kill characters for shock moments.

As much as i like Gunn's style ( and it was awesome with Guardians Vol. 1 and to a great degree made the movie) i am getting a bit tired at the overuse of songs as they overlay everything and start to distract from the show.

Tarantino does a similar thing but his choices usually enhance the scene, not drowns them.

That being said i really liked the show - good action and the team finally bonds, even Harcourt is on board.

I'm surprised Dwayne Johnson wasn't one of the names.

As much as i like Johnson he always seems quite cautious about his brand and treats his name and image as a product. Cena though doesn't seem to care that much and just wants to deliver something people would want to see even if it's him getting his ass kicked ( there is a rumor floating around that Johnson has a contract clause that says he can't ever lose a fight).

Cena has great comedic timing, in part because he's such a huge dude and acts against Hollywood stereotype but in general he seems like a cool dude which is why he is so good in Peacemaker.

I think the clause for Johnson was just for the Fast & Furious sequels because he and Vin DIesel were having a measurement contest.

That seems unlikely considering he was always happy to put people over in wwe after he made it big.

I remember watching an interview with Cena and other cast members of something else he was in and he was actually kinda 'nerdy' in the stuff he was into in the 80s/90s. Brought up anime and sci-fi movies/comics (which I'm sure is why he loves now being a comic book character) and stuff.

Peacemaker seemed right up his alley so good for him, it's a rare thing when you can combine hobbies/interests with your actual job.

I'm loving the tone and irreverent feel of the show so far. My only complaint is the soundtrack. I hated hair metal/glam back in the 80s and 90s and still do. I get that it's perfect for the character, I'm just tired of it being ever-present. It's a personal thing, I understand. lol

That scene with all the butterflies landing in their ships and then invading the police station and prison and taking over everybody, overlapped with White Dragon suiting up and his white supremacists, with the song about "monsters" was great. And it really raised the stakes. The butterflies are not messing around anymore. The invasion is on! I feel like the finale is going to be huge!

Vigilante was extra dumb in this one but I think part of that is probably meant to reflect PM starting to see things with more clarity. I had been hoping Goff-fly would be one of the good ones with his interactions with PM but obviously that wasn't the case. And not Detective Song dammit!

The opening of the episode was excellent.

Flash is a dirt bag, Wonder Woman was eye F'ing me from across the room. Very funny. I love the reference to the Justice League members. Who is left? Cyborg?

I like James Gunn's DC stuff. They should give him more creative influence over other properties in DC.

I have been constantly surprised by this show. It's funny, but has also managed character development I didn't expect. I had no idea Cena was so good at improv! They've all commented on it in the after show. That whole list of names thing? All Cena.

What has really hit me is the evolution of Peacemaker himself. This is someone horribly abused by his father, who is truly one of the most odious characters I've ever seen on TV. He was a bully at school because that's all he knew. His father used his brother's death (and lied to him about it being his fault) as a way to control him. His father's mindset was completely drilled into him - and he bought it. He became the killer, the unquestioning soldier. The whole "peace if I have to kill every man, woman, and child" was a catchphrase - he never thought about the implications until asked to actually kill children. He says insensitive things because he doesn't know better and has no social skills. He doesn't actually hate anyone or consider them inferior - that's his dad. His love for Eagly (his only friend for years - I think he saw Vigilante as more of a sidekick than friend) shows he has a lot of love in him.

Now he has these teammates who have become friends and he's questioning everything about his life and beliefs. I think it's been beautiful to watch. It started with Adebayo. She laughs at his jokes. She was originally the only one who called him Chris instead of Peacemaker. She saw the person inside and he's responded to that.

James Gunn put this on Twitter about the latest episode: "I think when he's playing the piano here it's the first time we've really seen him. Everything else has been noise & drama & puffery."

I've been very impressed with the rest of the cast as well, especially Freddie Stroma. I'm boggled by how he can make such a complete nutjob both humorous and kinda loveable. And Danielle Brooks (Adebayo) is a freaking star! Robert Patrick is awesome, as always, and I always love seeing Christopher Heyerdahl in anything. :)

I'm loving the butterflies. I really didn't know what we were going to get there, but the scenes in this episode (6) of how they take people over were horrifying. Poor Song! I really liked her.

So... we have butterflies in cop bodies *and* white supremacists led by Peacemaker's dad after Our Heroes. I have no idea how they're going to do this.

You forgot my favorite one:
" I think you're my real father..."
:guffaw:

WOW. Ep 7 was great. A lot happened. We get to see the powers of the White Dragon suit. Very Iron Man. We get a fight between Peacemaker and his dad and Peacemaker kills his dad. Nice emotional beat to see Peacemaker cry over killing his dad. He had to do it but he hated doing it. And then we see the butterfly cops chase the team and kill Murn. Another nice moment when Hartcourt is sad over the death of the butterfly that was in Murn. And we see the Cow. The episode felt like a sprint to the finale. Everything is set up now for the final mission to take out the Cow. I am really looking forward to the finale. I feel like it is going to be crazy.

After seeing it drag out in so many shows I like that this series is quick with bringing everyone in on it when the secrets are revealed.

Once again we see the value of a nutjob like Vigilante. Episode 4 Vigilante pointed out the White Dragon costume has weak points and we get the payoff here.

"Ding dong, bitches". I love Judomaster.

I'm really hoping for a fun behind the scenes special when this wraps up.
