TREKKER vs TREKKIE Why did trekkie become trekker?
Never understood the name change:wtf:

I vaguely recall some documentary special at the time of TNG, hosted by Patrick Stewart, where he mentions the two terms. In any case, I never got the impression that "Trekker" completely replaced "Trekkie," since "Trekkie" was still in general use as a term for a Star Trek fan even after a certain segment of fandom tried to add some overly self-important sense of dignity by calling themselves "Trekkers" instead.

I'm a Trekkie, full on. Always have been.

However, I've never been a fan of using the names of fandom as a staging ground for fan wars, like STAR TREK VS. STAR WARS or Marvel vs. DC. Why can't we all just be a fan... maybe of BOTH?

I also call myself a Lurker, a Scaper, a Gater, a Browncoat, an X-phile, a Whovian, a Colonial (pretty sure that's the BSG one), and whatever fans of SUPERNATURAL, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, ANDROMEDA, THE DEAD ZONE, EUREKA, FIRST WAVE, HERCULES, HEROES, LEXX, NIGHT GALLERY, SEAQUEST, SLIDERS, SPACE: ABOVE AND BEYOND, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, WAREHOUSE 13, XENA, and dozens of other shows are called. I've never found it necessary to have a fan war, and I never will. Ultimately, that's why some areas of fandoms have a bad reputation and why some names are derided, like how Trekkie and Trekker got name checked and split fandom all those years ago.

I just enjoy the shows. And spark some fun debates now and again. Never start a fan war, though.

I mean.. as a MSTie, the Satellite of Love could take on the Enterprise or the Death Star any day of the week except maybe Tuesday, that's laundry day.

You can be vigorously engaged in coitus while randomly wondering how many windows are on the port side of the Enterprise mutter "that's where Sulu's cabin is, I bet" without realizing it, be kicked out of the bedroom, out of the apartment, chased into the hallway with a fire-extinguisher while trying to cover your turgid shame with a nearby Guideposts magazine someone littered on the floor while begging for your clothes and pleading that you wouldn't do it again, while you realize a very un trekkie part of you is rubbing against the two color illustration of Norman Vincent Peale and you would still be a trekkie.
That sounds far too detailed not to have happened.... :shifty:

Yup. Hence why I usually just go by "Geek".

You know, strictly speaking, when someone knows a LOT about a subject, they are a geek.

Baseball fans, for example, who have EVERY stat memorized from players from decades ago... those are geeks, too.

:) :)

(I'm definitely not into sports, but you should see the look on people's faces when I say this.)
