Season 2 Premiere Date?

LastRideOut

We are now well into January, with no release date other than "February 2022". Has there been a specific date announced, or is there an announcement forthcoming?

Because of Discovery taking a mid-season break, that show won’t end until the middle of March at this point. Since Paramount won’t want to air both shows at the same time, I doubt we’re gonna get season 2 until the end of March.

Nothing’s been confirmed one way or the other, but that seems most likely.

Stop propagating this rumor as if there was any substance to it. There's no rule that two Trek shows can't be streaming at the same time -- that's something that's been invented on TrekBBS.

Precious Tritium used wording that clearly indicating he was supposing, not reporting facts.
My point is that there is ZERO basis to even suggest that Picard S2's premiere date might be pushed off because of the Disco hiatus. Yet somehow, it has become the defacto Rule of Trek Streaming on this board.

The answer to the OP is: the premiere date has been announced on Paramount+ as February 2022. Nothing more specific has been revealed.

There isn’t zero basis to the idea that they may delay the release, it’s a logical ‪suggestion based on the release pattern of Star Trek from CBA All Access and Paramount+ up to this point.

It may absolutely come out in February as announced previously, but the idea that they may postpone didn’t come from no where, and despite your feelings on the subject it’s not a baseless idea.

That's not true at all. Discovery being on hiatus for exactly the same length of time that Prodigy is back gives some basis. Plus none of the other new series have overlapped each other for more than a single episode.

It's a theory yes, but not a baseless one.

Precisely.

It doesn't seem likely they'll have two Trek series streaming at the same time unless they have drastically different target audiences. They're not even putting Lower Decks or Prodigy on at the same time as Discovery.

Discovery coming back in February has pushed back Picard's release date I looked it up on Imdb but they didn't have any new info about it yet.

One piece of data (sorry -- datum) isn't a trend.

Plus none of the other new series have overlapped each other for more than a single episode.
But they have overlapped. We shall see what happens with Picard S2. It's not like the Discovery hiatus took them by surprise. This was planned long ago -- certainly when the Picard S2 trailer was released on Star Trek Day in September.

It is somewhat odd we still don't have an official release date (i.e. day/month), but I'll wager that news will be forthcoming in the next week.

They only announced it 2 weeks before. There was no hint at it all.

And it did take them by surprise. CTV Sci-Fi and Crave both had Prodigy listed to go through the month of November originally, and had it continuing past the midseason finale, with episode 6 listed as coming out on November 25th 2021, but after the hiatus announcement, changed their listings.

Those weren’t dates speculated on fan sites, that was official information from Star Trek’s Canadian distributors on both their streaming and broadcast/cable services, and the fact that they were given information that turned out to be false indicates that they weren’t initially planning on pulling Prodigy for hiatus, or at the very least, weren’t/aren’t good at giving even those who are distributing the show advance notice of schedule changes.

CTV Sci-Fi in Canada is running commercials for Picard saying it will premiere in February, though it wouldn't be unusual if things changed at the last minute. Honestly, I'll be very surprised if Picard does in fact premiere in February.

February... March... April... it's a matter of a few weeks here or a few weeks there...

Does it really matter? I'd rather they spend that extra time polishing it up than release it 90% cooked.

Yes, it matters! Because I was promised a February 2022 release date, and I don't want to fucking wait three more months because lame Discovery needs to finish out a season. I'm old enough to remember a time when there were several Trek shows airing at once. All this has happened before, all this will happen again!

I would enjoy looking forward to both Discovery and Picard every week.
How about what AMC does with their The Walking Dead franchise; they would split half of their seasons for one show TWD approx.5 or 6 eps. take a break and air it during the new year while the spin-off series "Fear..." will do the same thing then "World Beyond" would start their 6 eps and finally TWD would return for their second half of their season. Rise, wash, and repeat?
