Hey, I never noticed that before....

Nice catch. In the book Star Trek Lives! (1975), Joan Winston chronicles her visit to the set of "Turnabout Intruder." At one point, Jimmy Doohan pulls out a pack of cigarettes, and she says something like "I thought the uniforms weren't supposed to have pockets." And he said something like "Well, that's just one of our little secrets." I don't recall the exact quotes, but it's in the book.

Theiss must have made some breeches from scratch that had no pockets, but also procured some regular trousers and just shortened them to save time. And those were the ones with pockets.
The pockets hold their Federation Credit Card and ID Card. (in addition to their pack of cigarettes and Zippo lighters ;)).

And since it never came up in any later films, it either never happened, or Spock is an even bigger deadbeat dad than Kirk.
I maintain Spock doesn't know about his kid.
Kirk may not have technically been a deadbeat Dad. He could have been paying child support - just not having visiting rights. if such a thing as child support exists in a moneyless future.
In the 1980s when TWOK was made it may have been accetable for a non-custodial Dad to be out of the picture but now we know (unless the father is on drugs, a criminal or something) that it is important that a child sees both their parents. IMO Kirk should have fought for access. If Carol tried to stop him from seeing his son then shame on her.

Now that I think of it, did Kirk even know he had a child with Carol or did he just not know David was the one who was his son?

Reading about Saavik's supposed pregnancy, it only now occured to me she had sex with a minor.

That is unless Vulcans are adult at age 14. I always thought extablishing Vulcans go into pon farr when they're still minors was not a good idea. I guess they were putting Vulcan tropes like mind melds into the movie so they tossed in Spock at 14 going into pon farr.

Different species, different biology, different rules. IOW, human rules of majority/minority don't need to apply.

We also don't know what really happened. It was vague and both were fully dressed and neat when we saw them jostled from their nap.

Perhaps she simply stroked his "fingers" until he was satisfied (he was an adolescent virgin - it would have taken like 8 seconds). Or maybe, since it's Pon Farr, they hit each other with sticks until she pretended she was dead. :mallory:

Actually having them do the serious on the Genesis planet to the point she was impregnated is an extremely ill-conceived and, IMO, borderline tasteless plot development. :ack:

Maybe Sarek is the deadbeat? He was having an affair with Saavik? :D

That gets really squicky with my head canon that Spock is a clone of Sarek...

Speak for yourself!

It took me at least 12...

*spittake*

Regarding the majority age of Vulcans, there is this from TAS Yesteryear (emphasis added.) Make of it what you will.:
SAREK: Soon you will undergo your test of adulthood in the desert. To survive for ten days without food, water or weapon on Vulcan's Forge will demand more of you than anything ever has.

Spock is seven.

Wow brutal parenting.......I wonder if that's when he got chased by the animal thing the name escapes me and the Red Angel saved him.

"That is unless Vulcans are adult at age 14."

Your memory is paying tricks with you.

What does the IMDB cast ist for Star Trek III: the Search for Spock say?

Carl Steven as Spock - age 9.

Vadia Potenzia as Spock - age 13.

Stephen Manley as Spock - age 17.

Joe W. Davis as Spock - age 25.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088170/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

And if my memory serves me right the possible sex between Saavik and Spock happened - if it actually happened -between her and the Stephen Manley 17-year-old Spock, or possibly the Joe W. Davis 25-year-old Spock.

I believe that in most European countries the age of consent for sexual relations is 14 and in the USA it is 18, and possibly other ages in other regions on Earth. What the age of consent for sexual relations is for Vulcans, especially Vulcans in Starfleet, has never been specified, so you might imagine that it is as low or as high as you want it to be. .

Or later series, novels, comics...
And Spock never had a human sister either until recently.
Perhaps Spock's kid will turn up in "Picard"

I thought it was obvious that they did it and thats why David had to stay outside. Look I actually think that Spock thnks of Saavik as a foster daughter so its just somethng she did to save young Spock's life. So all the more tragic that it had to happen.
Or maybe I'm just a pervert seeing things that aren't there.
