The break will allow Prodigy to finish the second half of its season. But personally, I don't like mid season breaks. It cuts the momentum of the season. At least, we won't have to wait too long.
What happens then to the airing of Picard, which was scheduled to air in February? Are they changing their minds?
If they avoid overlap, as their most recent scheduling moves and hiatuses indicate, then Picard will be delayed until March 24th.
Or March 10th, if this season is 11 episodes. I would hate to think CBS would think seven out of eleven is "mid" but this (likely) wasn't the original plan. So, I guess they can call it whatever they want, hah.
One of the show’s editors on Twitter confirmed it would be 13 this season for Disco. Chad something, can’t remember his last name.
As noted here, we’ve gotten confirmation of 13 from a Discovery editor.
It was editor Chad Robel, who tweeted the episode count was 13 here.
With the announcement of Prodigy’s upcoming hiatus(es), I can’t help but wonder if Discovery might be getting one too?
While they’re clearly willing to overlap the two series, with Prodigy’s 5th and last episode before their first break debuting at the same time as the Discovery Season 4 premiere, that’s only overlapping a single episode. On the other hand, the delay on the remainder of the first half of Prodigy’s first season could also indicate they’re splitting them up so the majority of them don’t air alongside Discovery.
But, if that’s the case/reason for the delay in Prodigy’s rollout, that would also seem
to imply that Discovery will be getting a hiatus as well, with only 7 episodes airing between the November 18th debut, and December 30th, the Thursday immediately before Prodigy’s return on January 6th.
So it would seem that either Discovery will be getting a hiatus 7 episodes into the season, or it will air the last several episodes (half?) of Season 4 concurrently with the final 5 episodes of Prodigy Season 1’s first half.
My suspicion is that they're running behind on post-production. Discovery's team, I mean, not Picard's.
If there is a hiatus for Discovery coming up, I don’t think it would be done for Prodigy’s benefit, but would be in order to accommodate Discovery’s post production needs.
Is that the correct link?As noted here, we’ve gotten confirmation of 13 from a Discovery editor.
It was editor Chad Rubel, who tweeted the episode count was 13 here.
This was actually what I’d thought immediately following the announcement of Prodigy’s hiatus,
When I had initially thought there might be a hiatus for Discovery, I had the same thought. With when they wrapped filming on Season 3, no one thought they’d be ready for this season as early as the premiere ended up being.
Is that the correct link?

Figured that might have been the case but was confused--lol. Thanks. IDK why the episode count is so secretive this year.........unless they are still cutting and might make finale a 2 parter.........idkIt was, but it appears to have been deleted!
Maybe Chad wasn’t supposed to mention it to the general public? Sorry if I got you in trouble, Chad!
(I *did* happen to get a screen grab, having anticipated it may go away)
